The location is quite near to the city center and to the underground stations Picadilly Circus and Leicester Square.
The following items did not match the price of the location and a 4 star rating: - Toilet did not flush properly - Bad smell from the canal - Shower: moldy and dirty everywhere and lime spots - Bathfloor dirty with footprints from previous residents. - Bathrobe dirty - Cushions dirty (strange white marks??) - Floor and shelves dirty and covered with dust. - Cannot open window for getting fresh air in (because of bad smell from canal). - Bed mattress is terribly worn out - Breakfast in an cellar. Very bad offering. Air very hot. - Whole room shows heavy signs of wear and tear. Renovation heavily necessary. The personell of the hotel was very impolite and did not react to our complaints. We tried to tell them nicely in the morning and nothing happened although they had promised it. In the afternoon the situation escalated: they shouted at us and the cleaning woman entered the room without knocking the door and complained that she had to do the work again although there is nothing to do according to her opinion. After that she left slamming the door. I also wrote a message to the hotel via booking.com asking for a solution but received no response. We were treated without any respect and even insulted by the hotel personell. They also did not provide a contact to the hotel manager and just referred us to the cleaning manager who was not available on site. There was no excuse at all for the situation and no solution was suggested to us. We then contacted the customer service of booking.com. They then achieved a party credit of the hotel rate for us. It was good that we had booked via booking.com.

The room was tiny and the carpet was wet and slightly mouldy by the bathroom. It had clearly been like it for some time as the adjacent wardrobe was also damp.

Location. Room was spacious. Cleaning and maintenance staff very pleasant and professional.
Fire alarm could have been handled better. Minimal communication with guests, no direction to assembly point. Non English speaking guests were confused.

The staff were extremely helpful and kind. The location is wonderful, and the rooms are surprisingly quiet for being located in such a central location. I will continue to choose Thistle London Piccadilly when I come to see shows on the West End.
