The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Rooms are small and not especially comfortable. Musty smell, often.

Staff pleasant, breakfast was ok but the hotel could do with modernising .
I didn’t dislike the hotel I just think it could do with a little modernisation.

Wonderful
Very friendly staff and comfortable beds. It was clean and had everything we needed. A small carpark or unrestricted parking in surrounding roads. An older style building with interesting features which wouldn’t suit people expecting perfection as the decor was a little tired in places. Great location with a bus stop just outside into the city centre or a 10/15 minute walk to Lark Lane along the edge of Sefton Park with loads of restaurants and bars We would definitely stay here again.
The option of a cooked breakfast and being waited on would have been nice.

Very Good
Beautiful building with antique furniture, room big enough, washroom pretty new with a nice shower, very clean.
They should fix better their beautiful plants outside, my window have so much privacy because of grown plants. Washroom needed a little shelf to put stuff.

The hotel felt like it was on the decline. What once may had been a trendy, popular hotel is in the past and the current hotel is holding onto what it can.
It gave a room that had hot water, a fan because it was hot, and free breakfast, but everything felt like it was on a budget, the picnic benches are falling apart, the rugs well used, exterior security cameras blocked by overgrown vegetation.
It had all the elements of a budget hotel, there was still a fire escape plan, the doors worked, the lights were on, but I expect that from every place. There were just hints of the place on the decline. Some of the lights flickered, the staff seemed over worked, there was a sign for a restaurant entrance but obviously wasn’t around anymore. There was a lovely spot in the back of an outdoor patio but there was a sign that it couldn’t be used for some reason. It had WiFi but my computer was saying it had weak security and refused to allow me to connect to it.
Just felt kind of sad.

Disappointing
Room was clean and tidy
Charged 25 pound late exit fee didn't even stay in the room and was told on arrival about a 100 pound holding deposit for a month which wasn't advised on our booking

Proximity to the city, but far enough away for peace at night. Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfy beds. Good parking.

Good
Friendly, helpful staff, especially Virginia on reception who went out of her way to help us navigate the transport system into the centre. The hotel's location a few metres from a bus stop meant we could travel quickly into the city, leaving our car in the hotel car park for the duration of our stay. This was a big plus as driving / parking in an unfamiliar city can be stressful.
I wouldn't say the interior furniture and decor was aesthetically pleasing but it was all very serviceable, reflecting the price of the hotel.
