Disappointing
Helpful & polite staff, responsiveness to problems, proximity to M&S Bank Arena, nice breakfast included, available until noon on Saturday. Up to 24hr onsite parking (£11 fee).
Original room was the tiniest hotel room I've ever seen, barely room to get around the beds, which were the width of children's beds, not full size singles (this style of room was not shown on the website or offered at a discounted price). Shower tray was patched with tape and the shower leaked very heavily onto the bathroom floor. The duty manager was very helpful and immediately moved us to a different room, which while still small with minimal room was much better (full sized single beds) as well as providing us with a voucher for a free drink each for the inconvenience. The new room was 2nd floor overlooking the waterfront, which was much nicer than the rear car park facing ground floor room with people walking past directly outside the window. However, with only 12-18" inches between the 'desk' and bed, it was impossible to put the chair there and the only way to work at the desk was to sit on the bed. That bed was very close to the window, which was drafty, as could see the curtain moving when the wind was blowing due to Storm Austin. I was 'lucky' enough to get the bed next to the window, as I'm usually overly warm in hotels. Even with warm air on all night I ended up needing extra layers of clothing over my usual nightwear as I was incredibly cold, although my travel companion who was further from the window was fine. Leaving we had difficulty exiting the car park, as despite having paid and registered the reg, the machine at the barrier wanted us to pay a further £25. This possibility had been mentioned by reception, so obviously something that happens a fair bit. After 2 calls for assistance the barrier was lifted for us remotely and we were able to depart. While not the fault of the hotel, the two stroppy people who got out of cars behind us to give us grief for tech problems that weren't our fault and spoke at us like we were idiots... well I hope you both had the day you deserved!

Rooms are really basic and have a dormitory like feel about them. Breakfast area is small and tables are crammed in and at busy times can get swamped with people who have to wait for tables to become available.
