Disappointing
The staff were all great, friendly and helpful.
Rooms are old, out dated. The room was not serviced, Water leaking from above floor in the bathroom, no shampoo in the bathroom, no device charging facilities, thick dust everywhere in the room and bathroom. Room was right by the entrance to the wing, so lots of noise in the passage. Breakfasts, whilst good, plate dirty and buffet area was messy with food spilled everywhere after a large bus tour group came down.

Poor
Good location for my needs, but not much else around.
Two issues. The lift was not working but they still gave us a room on the 2nd floor. At 74 years old I had to lug two heavy large suitcases one at a time up 20 steps and then back down the next morning. I asked how long the lift has been out of order and was told 3 weeks. I should have been emailed that the lift was not working. If so, I would have cancelled and rebooked at the Star Hotel down the street. Or I should have been assigned a ground floor room. Also, the room they gave us was right above the “Ballroom”. We had to listen to karaoke music from 8:30pm to 10:30pm. This wasn’t another guest playing loud music, this was the hotel! Both issues are Unacceptable. I complained when I checked out, but all I got was “We’re sorry”.

Good
Great, friendly staff, particularly the lady on the front desk. Excellent location in a lovely village. Great bar with good local lager. Reasonably priced. Ample parking
Corridors and staircases very tired and in need of upgrade. Attention to detail in rooms required - some fixtures falling off the walls, pictures missing but picture hooks still up, lift broken for entire 4 night trip, breakfast noticeably less enjoyable on busy mornings.

Disappointing
Quaint, historic, and antique furniture.
We were disposed to last available room and the lift was out and we had to climb up several long winding stairs with no one offering to help. We are older and exhausted and specifically booked hotel with a lift, because my husband had had knee surgery. Very disappointed in the actual hotel vs the picure they show. It sits on a street and the gardens are a small park across the street.

We took an unexpected detour to Kingussie and was delighted with our overnight stay here. Everyone was so pleasant and welcoming. A very old fashion and charming hotel and town.

Very Good
An old hotel that when new was probably a top hotel in the area. Nothing at all wrong with this place. Breakfast was great. Breakfast was of the buffet type but had a very good selection of meats including haggis and black pudding and other sausage and ham and eggs and fruits.

Great breakfast selection, dinner was very good but was confused with descriptions i.e. steak pie not as expected basically stew in a large Yorkshire pudding. Plenty of fresh vegetables. Staff are lovely.
Nothing.

Poor
Some of the staff were nice, namely the receptionists and the young dark haired guy at breakfast. The location was convenient and in a stunning area of natural beauty.
Some of the staff (One in particular, who seemed to be the bar manager) were unfriendly and unhelpful; almost to the point of being rude. Example: On arrival we were told by the receptionist that there was a set 4 course menu, at about £24, and an A la Carte menu, either in the dining room or the bar. We asked if we could have our daughter and her wife join us for her birthday, and were told yes. She then told the bar manager that she had agreed this with us. At this point I'll say that the hotel is geared towards coach parties run by it's own company. We asked at the bar for the menus and the staff seemed very unhappy we had guests with us. Eventually we were handed a photocopied sheet with an extremely limited menu on it. We asked for the set menu and were told that we couldn't have that in the bar and that our guests were not allowed in the dining room. We explained that the receptionist had said we could, and we were told that unless we were with a coach party, we were limited to the a la carte menu with the very small choice (1 beef, 1 Gammon, 1 Fish & 1 Veggie). When our guests arrived, we left and ate in a very nice new restaurant/bar about 2 minutes walk away in the town.
Once in bed, members of the coach trips had a party in the next room, with shouting and singing continuing into the small hours. As it was settling down, someone in a room nearby was running about and screaming, and next, a man started hammering on their door shouting threats to the occupants, culminating in "Shut the **** up or else!" at the top of his voice. We didn't get much sleep after that; great preparation for the 400 mile drive the next morning. We shan't be staying here again!

The location really suits our needs.
Everything we stay in a hotel everyone on our floor want to get up at the crack of dawn stand outside our rooms after banging their room door shut and discuss the problems of the world.
