Wonderful
Had a very enjoyable overnight stay. Hotel is in lovely village location. Friendly staff,good service and lovely food.
Our first room allocated had originally had an adjoining room and we could hear the guest's conversations. However we were allocated another room which was fine.

Breakfast for £15 was poor. We ordered full breakfast, sausage was not a good quality at all! And if you want toast it needs to be requested not offered at the same time as ordering.

Lovely interior, dinner was delicious, drinks fairly priced. Hilariously we were treated to overhearing (presumably) the manager being quite angry at someone having a Tennant's (lager) branded glass. This was apparently taboo for whatever reason. Not offensive per say hence not putting this in the "what didn't you like?" box, but if angry chats are to be had, take them out of the restaurant where people are trying to enjoy a quiet meal. It did feel though that we might have been on a hidden camera show! The guy maybe was our definitely should've been a football coach!
The festive menu had no prawn cocktail starter so, as we were all in the mood for that and nothing else, we opted for the a la carte menu which was disappointing as this was for a festive family meal. Bar service closed earlier than expected. We weren't wanting an all night drinks session but as this was a family visit, we wanted to stay up chatting for a bit longer. When the bar closed, although we were allowed to stay for as long as we liked, we felt like an inconvenience so cut the night shorter than what would've been ideal. Even for tea, coffee, hot chocolate or whatever; we're not a boozy bunch anyway but once the bar closed at 10:45, there was nothing available which was a bit sad.
