Pleasant
It has everything you may need to spend a night, so basically, a bed and a shower. The sheets and the bathroom were clean when I arrived. Peoplet at reception were nice.
It is what you pay for. It's an old building, so lots of carpets, stairs, and, for some, reason doors. I wouldn't recomend for traveleres with luggage with wheels (like myself). Carpets were, as expected, dirty and stained. There was a bit of a smell. The road in front of the build is closed and there was a lot of noice during the day.

Very Good
Safe and clean with curtains and plugs and a big Ensuite bathroom for the dorm. It’s old and pretty barebones but has everything you need.
The vibes are kind of shelter like and there’s definitely people who are at least partially living there, which was cool with me but might put off some people. There also were some guests with little regard for others in the dorms doing things like watching tik tok on full volume or speaking on FaceTime with people at all hours of the day and night. So maybe a few more rules about quiet hours should be put in place. Also the lockers were in really bad shape and were hard to use.

Poor
The Location was great, the staff was great, The beds were sort-of comfortable (the mattress was, but I had to pay extra money to get a bottom bunk - which are handspan off the floor - making it difficult to sit on, get in, get out of.)
1) No electric kettle for hot water: a basic expectation in the UK.
2) The Door Locks were broken - with a majority of guests having to come get the card re-imprinted to get the door lock to work. (Safestay pays its employees to waste time rather than fix the locks) I had to hike up to the 3rd floor 3-4x more than needed because the lock never worked.
3) The Lounge (and only common space) closes after 22:30 - leaving no where to sit - including your own bed. Terrible for a Digital Nomad who works late at night.
4) Everything was an up-charge (tea, water, towels, lower bunk, etc......)
5) no common kitchen (no fridge, no food storage)
6) no laundry
7) Breakfast was expensive and meager ($10 = toast, cereal, yoghurt, sliced cheese, weak coffee)
8) No venting in the rooms (my room smelled like a wrestling gym). the bathroom didn't vent.
9) Shower was lukewarm at best, leaked through the night, and had no shower door - causing the floor to get soaked making post-shower activities difficult
10) the power in the lounge did not work - and the few plugs that did, have a power phasing issue - causing damage to my computer. (I had to get it repaired)

Very Poor
location was alright although it got very noisy at night. think there’s a bar or smth around
everything. i was supposed to stay there for 3 nights and only stayed for 1. the bathroom was so gross. no shower curtain or bath mat or hand towel which meant there was water everywhere. the floors were so gross. there was stuff stuck to it and there was hair and dirt everywhere. the beds move a LOT. didn’t feel very stable at all. their check in time is at 3pm and i got there at 3:30 - exhausted, and they hadn’t finished my room yet.

Wonderful
People seem to generally be quite and respectful, and facilities are about as clean as you can hope for in a hostel. Staff are friendly and helpful. Paul gave some great recommendations as I headed out to Edinburgh. I had a great stay.

Fair
The curtains were great to have especially because I was heading to bed early for an early flight! I always appreciate having a locker for my belongings and the shower/toilet were in the same room which was nice.
Bed weren't very comfortable, room was fairly bright with street lights outside but curtains helped a lot, rooms had 10 people so fairly noisy and hard to sleep. Large bug in the bathroom.

Wonderful
It was quite at night and I liked the fact that they had curtains around the bed
Would be better if they had halal meat at breakfast.

Big en suite bathroom in the 6 bed female only dorm. curtains around bunks for privacy.
It was a bit run down. Kinda old.

Disappointing
Downton Abbey playing on endless loop in common room is not my idea of fun. Better to just turn off the TV if they're not going to trust guests with the remote.
No kitchen facilities or even access to a kettle. But you can buy cup of tepid water for 50p. Parsimonious or what.

Location and staff were excellent. Room was basic but very clean.
Smokers were out on the steps most of the night and very loud.
