The West End Hotel is located in a B-listed Victorian townhouse only 15-minutes walk from the West End of Princes Street, the perfect base to relax yet within easy reach of all that Edinburgh has to offer. We offer simple, quality accommodations for guests that want to make the most of their time exploring Scotland’s capital. After a full room refurbishment in 2018, The West End Hotel Edinburgh offers modern and bright DORMITORY rooms which are comfortable and welcoming. Choose to stay in either one of our small 6 bed dormitory rooms with En-suite or one of our larger dormitories with shared bathrooms, you won’t be disappointed! Rooms at West End Hostel are accessible by stairs as there is no elevator at this hotel. The property also features original high ceilings and bay windows. Buses run every 10 minutes from the hotel to the city center. Edinburgh Haymarket Rail Station is just a 5-minute walk. Public parking is available at the nearby NCP Car Park, which is 20 minutes' walk from the hotel. Groups of 8 or more people must pay a damage deposit of £20 per person upon arrival cash only - this will be refunded on check out once no damage or disturbance has been caused as per hostel rules.

Hotel was close to murrayfield. A lot cheaper than other hotels around about. We knew we were going to be in a bed pod with other people in the pods beside us. 4 pods to one bathroom. Room was modern.
The hotel was getting a revamp, with most of it updated. Still a bit to do. Toilet didn't have a mirror on the wall yet but think that was going to be done as the mirror was there. Ladders up to bunks needed some sort of tread as it hurt your feet when climbing up.

The location was good, we always walked to the center of town and the neighbourhood was very nice
The common areas were really disappointing. The kitchen was very dirty and not at all as it shows in the pictures. Only 2 tables to eat inside and one couch, I would not call this a "common area". Kitchen cabinets and all kitchen equipment were dirty, partly for guests falt but partly for owners falt, never saw someone cleaning the space. The dorms were ok for cleaning but there were no hangers and no lockers. The pictures are misleading. If they are doing renovations maybe I would suggest to do it not in the busiest month of the whole year but maybe do it in low season? And also one bathroom and one shower for a room of 12 people is not ok. Of all the hostels I stayed this was unfortunately the worst.

What I appreciated the most about this accommodation was definitely the staff. I had a few issues during my stay, but they were always quick, helpful, and truly committed to solving everything. A special thank you to Lukas, the manager, who was outstanding, to Munier for being so attentive, and even to the director Arol, who personally made sure everything was taken care of. They are truly 5-star people! If there’s one thing that makes this hostel stand out, it’s their genuine effort to make you feel welcome and want to come back. And I definitely do!

The location of the hostel
There were no curtains for the bed (good luck sleeping if a person decides to keep their bed's light on), no barriers for the upper beds, no lockers (everybody putting their stuff on the floor), no heating/air conditioning and no possibility to open the window or close it (it is fixed), no age limits for the room (so different lifestyle for everyone, especially people at their 50s, 60s), some plugs do not work. And besides all that, the manager (Lukas) does not even make up for it, the encounters we had (and I found out that other people felt the same, I'll let them post a review too) were very disturbing, cold and rude.

That it had a bar which was open till 11pm.
The dorm room with triple beds was so inconvenient. It was the only hostel available so had to book it. The mattress was so uncomfortable, the plug point wasn’t working properly. The bathroom had no latch, thankfully it was a female dorm. It was not properly cleaned

Staff are very helpful and also got to watch the football in the bar which was amazing the shower's ate fantastic too
