Disappointing

We were very disappointed. Our toilet was broken, and when they moved us to another room, the sink was broken too! The carpet looked extremely dusty, the furniture was old, and the bed was small. The hotel is far from the city with no restaurants nearby, and the hotel’s own restaurant had bad service with horrible, cold food. This place is far from being a 4-star hotel.

Very Good
The room was nicely sized and had a bathtub. Not enough hangers, though. The gym, accessible directly from the hotel, was a real gym, not just some exercise room and a pool. The pool was very complete with hot tub, steam room and sauna. The locker rooms were very complete as well. It was nice to have the opportunity to come to the hot tub and relax after a long day of activities in Edinburgh and surroundings.
The breakfast was limited and tasteless, but this was true in all of Scotland. Sorry, not a fan of Scottish food.

We got what we wanted and expected... so no complaints.

The location was great and very convenient for getting around the city. I enjoyed the breakfast, and the room was cozy and comfortable. Having a Starbucks located within the hotel was also a nice bonus.
Overall, I had a good stay and appreciated the hotel's convenient location and amenities.
What I didn't like was the cleanliness of the room on arrival. There were stains in the toilet that appeared to have been left by a previous guest, and I also found hair on the bed. Unfortunately, I was too tired after my journey to contact room service and request a reclean.
I also found the hotel's décor quite dark, with a predominantly black-and-white interior and exterior. My first impression was that it felt more suited to business travellers than families. That said, it did grow on me over time, and aside from these issues, my stay was generally fine.

Check in staff exceptional, overall front desk staff exceptional during our stay. Gym and pool very good. Kids amenities in and outside the eating area very good.
It was a Thursday night and our only night staying & to be told by the bar manager at 9pm that the draught alcohol taps would close in 15mins (only bottles/wine for the rest of the night) as all taps would be closed for keg changes was a absolutely ridiculous scenario?? I mean the lack of respect it shows to your customers at the peak time after a long day out seeing Edinburgh and after dinner when looking to relax with some draught beers ..this should have been done in the morning!! ..it beggars belief! Who does that to their customers at peak time. I can have a bottle of beer at home! A managers decision too!? Ruined our night relaxing and such a poor poor decision which had obviously perplexed the bar staff too who didn't know where to look and were embarrassed to have to front that ridiculous decision up to everyone in the bar who were not happy. A needless arrogant thing to do by a manager.

Disappointing
Location.
Staff. Cold restaurant. Poor facilities in our family room. Only one chair for three of us. Only one tiny table. Lack of sockets. First time we went to the pool, we got in no problem but on the second day we were challenged in public by a rude member of staff who said we did not have free access to the pool. We were told to go round to reception and were charged.

Wonderful
Bed was very comfy. Hotel had many facilities available. The restaurant served Halal options which was great for us. The bus stations are right in front of the hotel.
Room went a bit too cold at times even when we set the heat but it wasn't working. We ran out of body shower and soap and it was a struggle to get them replaced.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Swimming pool and hot tub great. Nice breakfast. Comfortable bed. Clean room and bathroom.
The room was cold and couldn’t work out how the get the heating to turn up even after trying a few different things with the control panel. Couldn’t see any instructions for it: didn’t have a spare cover or quilt so couldn’t put extra covers on the bed.
