Wonderful
Upgraded to an apartment and it was fabulous. The size was fantastic and lots of nice touches, with rainshower, bath, 2 tv's, nespresso machine, bottles of water everyday and the apartment was serviced every day. Otherwise excellent- loved our stay. Highly recommend. Excellent location.
Only tiny (and made no difference to enjoyment of stay) was lack of places to put suitcases in the bedroom - they ended up spewn on the floor.

Great attitude from all the staff - we stayed the four nights in the run up to the Coronavirus extraordinary measures gathering pace. As we checked out the hotel closed. Throughout the drama the staff were great - positive, helpful and couldn't have done more.

Wonderful
However, I can't go far enough to compliment the team, especially Chris at reception who delivered amazing service for the entire stay. He/the hotel arranged a little birthday surprise for us when we arrived at the apartment, took time to show us around the apartment and offered suggestions on where to go, eat etc. He was genuine and kind! They also offered us 2 glasses of champagne from The Huxley bar, for the inconvenience of moving apartments which was also really appreciated!! With a lot of uncertainty at the moment around Coronavirus, the hotel has gone to great lengths to reassure and make customers feel comfortable with a briefing at checkin about measures they are taking to keep guests safe i.e. sanitising public areas, information sheets and tags on items that have been sanitised in the apartment. Chris also made a reservation for us to dine at Kyloe (highly recommended!), again with a little birthday surprise at the end of the meal! Generally I want to commend the service and friendliness of all staff at The Rutland, Kyloe and The Huxley. Visiting from London, we could learn a thing or two about 5 star hospitality from you! Thank you all for a memorable stay!
After a bit of a false start, due the one bedroom apartment (specifically booked to celebrate my fiances birthday) not having water to run a bath, we were quickly moved to the same apartment next door (equally as impressive but different interior). Again we had a few issues as we couldn't get the fireplace going and with the help of staff, couldn't locate the thermostat to warm up the chilly rooms...but we got there in the end!

Fair
Staff were friendly and I couldn’t fault their efforts to help, say good morning etc. The hotel looked very elegant and the added extras of things like makeup remover in the bathroom was appreciated.
Noise levels were off the charts - positioned on a main road, next to the tram, the room vibrated every time a tram or loud truck went passed. I’m 4 months pregnant and desperately need my sleep right now, so after 3 hours of honks, horn’s, bells, I relocated to the bathroom to insulate myself from the noise and slept on the floor with the duvet. Bed - was like sleeping on stone, so the bathroom floor wasn’t much different. Curtains - need blinds, you can’t open them and get any light in the morning as the entire world can see in.

We went to Edinburgh for my partner's birthday. The staff at the hotel were superb and the room we stayed in was fabulous. The food and service in the Kyloe Restaurant were fantastic. Will definitely be staying there again.

We were upgraded to a suite and it was absolutely amazing it had the wow factor.
On arrival at 11:10am toilet just of reception 2 hand dryers not working plus 1st ladies toilet had no toilet paper shocking for the Rutland. Breakfast not up to 4* standards cooked Scottish breakfast real disappointment tomato cooked to a frazzle 1 mushroom on plate hard poached egg 1 half slice brown bread no beans no top of tea or coffee as stated. Certainly needs upgrading.

Having booked a room at the hotel we were upgraded to an apartment on arrival which was beautiful. It was warm, clean and very comfortable. The food in The Huxley was delicious and with wide range of breakfasts in particular. The staff in all areas are helpful friendly and welcoming. We would highly recommend this hotel.
Nothing, we had a very pleasant stay.

Pleasant
Location. Friendly staff. Hair dryer and straighteners available in the room Tasty breakfast
Lift could do with some maintenance Chef over did the fried eggs Others mentioned in reviews treats/upgrades for special occasions. I mentioned we were away for hubby’s b’day. If you don’t do it for all, don’t do it at all. Way over the top prices for the mini bar eg £22 half bottle of red wine When in Scotland, Shortbread would be nice in the room

Fabulous apartment with everything you could need, like a home away from home. Admittedly we were given a free upgrade due to it being our 30th Wedding Anniversary trip but we were given the best apartment. Huge bedroom with en suite that included a 4 poster bed, huge bath and walk in shower. Gorgeous spacious living room with full kitchen, under floor heating in kitchen and en suite, separate remote controlled gas fire, wall mounted 60” TV’s in both the living room and bedroom, separate WC. Staff members Bruno and Chris on reception were excellent and friendly. I can honestly say that apartment 3 is by far the best room I have ever stayed in. Very quiet at night despite trams running on the main Princes Street and a taxi rank outside the main hotel (the apartments are alongside on a side road. Two fabulous restaurants within the Hotel. The Huxley where breakfast is taken and Kyloe above which is probably the best Steak house in Scotland. It’s not cheap but the steaks are incredible and as guests you get 20% off you bill and an education about the art of cooking steak from the waiters and even a choice of knives to use to eat it with. Hotel is perfectly situated for a stay in Edinburgh being at the western end of Princes Street.
Parking is an issue like any city centre hotel, there is on street parking outside that is free between 6:30pm and 8:00am but there is a 4 hour maximum stay so you would have to move on. Far better to use Castle Terrace NCP car park just around the corner which the hotel has a 50% discount with, having said that it’s a good job they have, we arrived at 5pm on Friday and left at 10am on Sunday and it should have cost £62, with the hotels discount it came down to £30. Parking anywhere in Edinburgh is not cheap
