Boasting an enviable location in Edinburgh city center, the historic and chic InterContinental Edinburgh The George sits in the new town, close to Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street Gardens and Holyrood Palace. It features elegant rooms, a selection of events spaces and meeting rooms (including the magnificent Kings Hall) and a well-equipped gym. This Grade II listed building with its distinctive facade was first built in 1775 and has since undergone an extensive refurbishment project, transforming the majority of the bedrooms and public areas. The carefully-designed interior has created a sense of restored grandeur with simple detailing and the use of natural materials in a nod to its rich history. Each room features a flat-screen TV, free WiFi and an private bathroom, alongside welcome amenities and luxury Byredo toiletries. Free high-speed WiFi is also available throughout the hotel. The on-site restaurant, Le Petit Beefbar, serves the finest cuts of beef from around the world, as well as a menu of cocktails, spirits, soft drinks and coffees. The restaurant is open Wednesday–Sunday only, but the bar is open seven days a week from 12.30 until 11pm. The hotel cafe Burr & Co. is a local favorite, serving drinks and a selection of cakes, pastries, sandwiches, and salads. It is open 8am–5pm. on weekdays and 9am–5pm on weekends. A full room service menu is also available for guests wishing to dine in-room.

Very comfortable stay in a large room with a great walk in shower. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Don’t really have anything bad to say except we had no robes in our room and hall carpets were looking grubby in high traffic corridors.

I liked the central location, the breakfast was lovely and the staff were amazing.
The room was very cold as the windows need replacing and the heating was inadequate to cope. The heating fan made a noise which kept me awake most of the night. There was no form of heating in the tiny bathroom, so having a shower was unpleasant. Also the room was in a weird rear part of the hotel and suffered from outside noise from the street that ran along the back, also due to the deteriorated sealing of the windows. All in all at £1300 for 2 nights it was exceptionally poor value for money, a Premier Inn would have been vastly better value, even at that same cost!

Heating / air con system not working. Only blowing cold air so room was absolutely freezing. Had to sleep in full tracksuit to keep warm. Reception informed & they tried to reset it twice but this didn’t resolve the issue. Portable heater provided by reception which helped to warm the room. Disappointed by this for a 5* hotel and having paid £600 for 3 nights.

The location is excellent, the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the cleanliness and tidiness are superb, although I don't leave my room very late. A pleasant stay.
