The room was very small and in a basement with only an operable sky light for natural light and ventilation. Not what we had expected for this price class!

The Place was in walking distance of the Botanical Gardens which was a welcome respite from the busy city centre.
The Tattoo was amazing as was the atmosphere of the Festival.
Good location for city centre
The room was very small considering the amount paid. My husband felt very claustrophobic.
It did us for 2 nights, and I understand that the cost is higher during the peak season but for what we paid- it wasn't worth it.
You could leave by another door, other than the front door which was supposed to close behind you but it didn't and we made sure it was closed, but others didn't necessarily do the same.
We came back from the Tattoo at nearly midnight and walked straight through the front door, with no one around , with reception off to one side. Anyone could have walked in.
Not happy with security of the place.
Took our own breakfast as the cost for in house breakfast was too pricy for us.

The location was excellent l situated on the quieter side of the city, yet just minutes' walk from trams, buses, trains, and a shopping centre.
Staff were pleasant and as accommodating as possible throughout our stay.
Unfortunately, our stay was disappointing. The pillows were extremely soft, offering no support, and when we requested firmer alternatives, we were told there were none available apart from the same type.
The room itself was very small, with no air conditioning and only a skylight that was on a timer and limited to a ‘vent’ setting. The heat was overwhelming.
Both the iron in the room and the replacement we requested were broken, despite one having a safety check sticker stating it was inspected in May 2025.
The bar lacked any real atmosphere and was only staffed upon request by the receptionist, which made the hotel feel more like a stopover than a welcoming place to relax.
We paid £561 for two nights, and that didn’t even include breakfast. With the Premier Inn less than 30 seconds away, that would definitely be our choice next time.

Location is very central. Nice breakfast
Noise of trams early hours, door into bathroom bangs against sink - could not be fully opened, TV was a disaster - could not obtain any channels other than BBC. No lifts - stairs for access to rooms.

We chose The Place Hotel for its location. I hadn't expected the room to be so spacious with such high ceilings and full length windows looking out across Edinburgh City. Watching the sun set was an added bonus.
The bed was very comfortable as were the feather pillows. A fan was already in the room, which was definitely needed that evening.
There was an outside area which was also very relaxing.
The staff were also very welcoming.
There was nothing to dislike.

spent 200 pounds a night and room was extremely small.. Almost like it was for hobbits.. I couldnt stand up to Pee in the toilet/bathroom and literally had to bend down while in the shower. I am quite tall 6ft 2.. but this shouldnt be the case after spending 200 quid a night. Rooms sizes really poor and no lifts as well.. However, tbf the staff tried to make up for this by helping with my luggage up and downstairs. They were all very pleasant too.

My stay at The Place Hotel in Edinburgh was absolutely wonderful! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by friendly and professional staff who made me feel right at home. The room was spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated with a modern yet cozy vibe. The bed was super comfortable, and I had a restful night's sleep after a day of exploring the city. The hotel's location is perfect—just a short walk to the city center and major attractions. Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay while visiting Edinburgh. Highly recommended!
