Our only problem was that water started to leak inside and 1-2 liters of water came out next to the toilet and this made us a little difficult.

The location was amazing. The experience of a canal boat was really fun. We enjoyed being central to everything in Edinburgh. The beds were really comfy. The boat stayed nicely warm. For the women, the flat iron and hair dryer was a great amenity.
It is hard on a boat to say you are going to have lots of space, so that needs to be expected. We did battle venting when we cooked so be prepared to open the hatch to clear out the kitchen. Everything was expected as we knew we were on a boat and if you go into the place with this in mind you will love it.

The Boatel is quirky but brilliantly located and comfortable. Natasha was really helpful and accommodating. You have to get used to managing the things like the pump and toilet but it's easy enough. Kitchen was well set up and easy to use and beds were super comfortable. We were there in November so you needed to get the blower going initially for heat but once heating on it was snug.

Sofa bed wasnt the best. Needs a mattress topper. Bedside cabinet in bottom bedroom to near sockets so can only use one. Couldnt get electric blanket to work in this room either.

Special experience of living on a boat, especially interesting for kids. More spacious than expected.
Firstly, when we arrived we had to wait for one hour until the manager came to have our check-in done, although he kept telling us that he'd be there in 5 minutes. Once we entered the boat, it was freezing inside as all heaters had been completely turned off and it took quite some hours to get the boat to a reasonable temperature.
Secondly, he had forgotten to fill up the water reservoir. The consequence was that the second night we were left without water, and therefore also without being able to use the toilet. We called the manager, who apologized at once, but still wouldn't admit his error. Hearing the noise of water filling the reservoir, we knew that he had actually forgotten it and was trying to hide his mistake by filling the tank even if he had told us, that it had already been filled correctly before we came. We noticed a water hose entering the boat that had not been there before. Moreover there was a loud, annoying noise of running water. The manager had already left when the filling was still going on. After a few hours not being able to sleep due to the noise we were wondering if the manager had not forgotten about the water tank. We called him and again he apologized. He did have forgotten. He then even asked us to turn it off ourselves. So my husband went out in the middle of the freezing night, only wearing pijama.
Furthermore, during our whole stay the internet/WLAN/TV were not working, even though they tried to fix it several times.
After having spent three days in these disappointing conditions, we asked the owner to cancel our last night. The owner was very obliging and friendly and cancelled our stay so we could move to a more comfortable accommodation.
We sincerely hope the owner has been able to fix all the issues (and may be hiring a more trustworthy manager), because the boat is actually quite nice. The location is ok, even if the water around it is full of garbage...

Lovely, cosy stay!
The children loved staying on a boat, as did we! Natalie was really helpful upon arrival, she showed us around and left her number if we needed anything throughout our stay. The boat was clean and warm. It is a great size and was very comfortable for a family of 4, it could easily accommodate a couple more adults or children. Great location, within easy walking distance of Princes Street, Edinburgh Castle and The Old Town! Highly recommend, we would love to stay again!
We were a little worry about the temperature prior to arrival as temperatures had dropped and the canal was frozen! But we can honestly say we were lovely and warm, the boat was very well heated.
For a unique stay in Edinburgh, do not hesitate to book!

If you want to stay in somewhere a little different, the wee sisters boatel has it. Location a few streets from main attractions with excellent facilities, clean, warm, little extra comforts, self catering.
