Good
Great hotel overall. Amazing location and very nice exterior and interior.
Place only has one lift that you can use from the lobby which is pretty annoying the wait takes forever especially if the occupancy is high then you’ll wait a good 10-15 minutes for the lift. We also got 2 rooms both of which needed to be changed due to plumbing issues and that was a very long process both times.

The best hotel we stayed at during our honeymoon.

Wonderful
Staff were excellent, really helpful at all times and extremely polite. The hotel is beautiful and in an excellent location. Bar area is amazing.
Bedrooms are lovely, though i couldn't find a pillow which was comfortable. The robe in the room is a nice touch but would have been a decent size for a 12 year old not a 6 foot 2 man. No problem though, everything else made up for this!

Very Good
The staff were all amazing and so attentive, the hotel is beautiful and I love the nostalgia and attention to detail, we were given a free upgrade and had the most gorgeous view of the castle, I loved the free bottled water which was replenished daily and the room was spotlessly clean. As we were only there for two nights, unfortunately I didn't get to experience the spa which I will definitely make sure I do the next time I visit.
The only fault I feel I can mention is the bathrobes, they are a tad tired and were extremely good for exfoliation and maybe four biscuits instead of two on the tea tray as my husband likes a bit of shortbread and ate both ?

Very Good
Room was exceptionally nice, very clean, nice bathroom and spacious room as a whole.
However, it would have been nice to have a turndown service and the small luxury of a chocolate each evening for the price of the room.
The service in the bar downstairs was slow and took over 20 minutes from ordering to receiving a drink one evening.

We had a wonderful stay here. The location is great and we had a beautiful view of the castle. Rooms are so comfortable and big. Breakfast was really yummy! I want to give a huge shout out to Joseph who was so helpful and kind throughout our stay.

Pleasant
Nice staff, great location, beautiful lobby.
Rooms and spa were outdated and construction lead to challenges in comfort. Elevated noise, poor temperature control, cold water, dysfunction in alarms. Out of order saunas didn’t help and the changing rooms were not adequately restocked with shampoo and conditioner.

Poor
Only the location was good, everything else, from the building, facilities, rooms, to the room service and quality was below average
Our first room was horrible, the paint was peeling off the walls, the staff didnt explain anything to us upon check in.

Wonderful
Hotel is great. Very well located and with wonderful staff and breakfast. Gym is also very nice, plus there's the pool. Worth it.
Restaurant should have been better. Not great service at all. I would not reccomend for dinner or a tea in the afternoon.

The staff was incredible. Friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Even helped us get a taxi to the airport during a very busy time in the city.
View from the room was also great.
Only 1 elevator and its quite small and slow. This could be improved.

The location of you are using hop on/off bus is ideal. The overall ambiance of the property is wonderful. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Joseph at the front desk was the star employee.
No negatives, we truly enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful
Nice location and nice hotel!! The view is wonderful, the faculties are very nice. Hotel is next to the railway station and the police station. The security is very good. It's also very convenient to take a taxi.
Because window does reflect light, it's necessary to close the blind completely especially for night time. The hotel rooms have such instructions. However, since we can clearly see the people in other rooms through the reflection on the glass, and others can also see us. So it's quite embarrassing. Other than that, everything was amazing!!

Good
Laura at the front desk was absolutely amazing. The most warm welcome & helpful introduction to the property as well as Edinburgh. And whenever we saw her throughout our stay, she remembered us & was so absolutely warm & kind. A stand out in our entire week in the UK.
The property is very cool in an excellent location, walkable to everything we wanted to do with our time.
The bar is beautiful & the breakfast room is quite nice & full of bustle in the am. The entire staff at this property is actually quite wonderful.
Currently under renovation, the property is a bit difficult to get around. Our room was on the 5th floor & we couldn't find the staircase that lead from the 4th to the 5th floor - because it is different than the main staircase.
The renovation has also left one elevator not working (the property does a decent job of explaining it & making up for the inconvenience with free drink cards for the bar).
Parking is self-park at a public garage around the corner from the property - no valet. It worked out just fine, but it isn't ideal.
Our stay was actually quite nice, but we stayed in 4 total hotels in our time in the UK and The Caledonian fell to the bottom spot on our list from best to least good - even with the exceptional service & kindness of Laura.

Very Good
The lobby was grand. The location was very good. The service was very good and pleasant.
There was only one elevator for all guests and luggage. . This made wait times longer and felt chaotic at times especially with tour groups arriving and leaving.
The service in the restaurant was inconsistent. Two mornings we got two coffees to go complimentary and on the third morning the hostess said there would be a charge. She didn’t charge when I questioned it. Dinner in both restaurants was good but service was slow and inconsistent and one evening the wait staff never came back to take our desert order so we just asked for the check. (Lobby restaurant).

Exceptional
Great property with very friendly staff and nice rooms. Very central location. Many cool pubs, restaurants, and awesome sights in close proximity. Also, there is a SIXT car rental spot (Edinburgh Old Town) right around the corner in case you want to rent a car to go to the Highlands.
The breakfast concept — a combination of ordering plates from the menu and buffet — was very nice (loved to have my daily Haggis :)), albeit slightly hard to understand on the first day we got there.

Disappointing
Good location. Great staff
No breakfast with a $500+ room. Construction right outside the window starting at 7 am. Very small room for a luxury hotel.
