Hotel was very regal, great staff, very polite and accommodating also a central location for our needs, will definitely re-visit once building works are completed. Edinburgh was beautiful too.
First room too small, very disappointing for the first impression based on the hotel expectations. Also extremely disappointed that we were not made aware prior to arrival that major building works were taking place at the rear of the hotel - our bedroom overlooked the building site and we were woken on both mornings to the sound of workmen, heavy machinery digging and grinding. if we had been given the choice we would have chosen a different hotel.

Great comfortable beds, awesome location.
Great competent front of house staff.
Confusion at breakfast dining. We chose not to have a breakfast package. Morning 1, we thought we would just have an ala carte breakfast in the breakfast room. All good, ordered, ate, and left.
Morning 3 was told that ala carte was impossible in the breakfast room, only the £35 per head. Confused, very much. Had to eat breakfast in the Courtyard because they only catered for the full £35 breakfast in the breakfast room. Manager was all good about it and looked after us, but found out that Thomas the Manager had charged us the £70 for 2 for the full breakfast on day 1.
Day 3 Manager sorted it out, but really shouldn't be that difficult when every other Hotels across the globe can accommodate a package breakfast or an al a carte in the same room!!.

Very comfortable room and hotel situated right in the heart of the city
The breakfast experience was the most disappointing I've had in all my years of travel. All the "hot food" items were cold and had been sitting for a long time. The made-to-order scrambled egg and salmon—an extra charge on an already very expensive £35 breakfast per person—took 20 minutes to arrive, and it was also cold and congealed. The sourdough toast it was served on was badly burnt on both ends. The tea I asked for was from a flask that had been sitting at a service station, so of course it was cold and stewed. When I asked for a second fresh cup of tea the staff member made me feel like it was inconveniencing her.
For a hotel of this price, the standard was extremely poor. I finally voiced my opinion to the manager on duty, who not only acknowledged my comments as legitimate but could also clearly see the two burnt edges of toast I had cut off and the cold, congealed state of the food. He agreed that it was not an unreasonable expectation for a breakfast of this cost to include a fresh pot of tea. To add final insult to injury, the hotel still asked me to pay the supplement for the uneatable meal at checkout

Room view to Castle was stunning... Thank you for the upgrade.
Centrally located in Edinburgh city was a bonus, we were a short walk from many attractions.
Breakfast was excellent... especially the fresh honey still on the comb... That was such a treat!
Having to leave at the end of our stay.
