Located just a 1-minute walk from Princes Street, The Caledonian Edinburgh George Street's bars, restaurants and shops are less than a 5-minute walk away. There is free WiFi available throughout. Originally built in 1903 as part of Edinburgh's central railway station, rooms at the hotel each have a flat-screen TV, a bathroom with designer toiletries, and fluffy bathrobes, as well as unobstructed views of Edinburgh Castle. General facilities were good, the bar areas/restaurant were amazing along with the staff in these. The breakfast service was also very good. Concierge service were brilliant and very helpful along with the waiters and bar staff.
On arrival we got given a room which absolutely stunk of food, we asked for help with this they said someone has been sent to sort out. No one ever turned up after multiple trips back down to reception we were told it had been cleaned and to go and check ourselves, it hadn’t even been touched. The staff basically forgot about us and we didn’t hear anything for nearly 2 hours, we just sat in the other room. After multiple calls and being told someone would be in touch with us we heard nothing. Finally got through to the manger and explained the situation who finally came and sorted us 2 other rooms. After a 7 hour drive, we were left waiting for hours with poor customer service up until that point and when you spend £1500 on a hotel room for a couple of nights it’s not good enough. Genuinely premier inn customer service would have been better! The manager was great though and as soon as she found out she got it sorted but the general staff in reception although very polite and friendly were not good enough.

Comfortable, clean, and spacious rooms.
One elevator results in many people waiting far too long or resorting to walking five floors of stairs, often arriving before the elevator. Breakfast staff moving at unbelievable speed. This results in having to continually ask for tea/coffee/toast and other items that previously were offered to you with staff asking if more was required. Very poor attention to tables.

Beautiful and very well maintained. Very clean. Great location.
Lifts not working either 15 min wait to get the one lift or 5 flights over very big stairs. All lifts broken when I came back from dinner - so good exercise I guess! Electric locks don’t work - get a key. Don’t bother telling them you are gluten free before you arrive - they completely ignore the message and give u gluten biscuits. Fried eggs in the morning are not fried - more like boiled flat eggs.

This is a wonderful hotel we have not visited Edinburgh for 12 years ago and normally stayed in a boutique hotel. The Caledonian is by far the best hotel we have stayed in ever . The staff were all courteous and friendly. Very professional informative and helpful. Took my husband for his birthday he really enjoyed the time away .Excellent facilities , room , breakfast was excellent had a mimosa every morning of our stay Brilliant.

This is a great traditional hotel with comfortable rooms and good facilities. Great front desk staff.
Standard rooms are a little on the small side as are the bathrooms but well equipped.

It really is a special place that I enjoy visiting every year.
This is not something I don’t like but really just constructive feedback to hopefully create a better overall customer experience. I feel it would work well if the Spa / swimming area was allocated or organised via a booking system to prevent overcrowding.
