Ideal location for visiting Edinburgh attractions and convenient for meeting local friends. Wonderful to have private parking in the centre of a city.
Everything was perfect: great breakfast, helpful staff, well appointed room. We think the 'muzak' at breakfast was intrusive and could have been better chosen.

Hotel is on a relatively serene, quiet street in the West End overlooking a small private garden and spread across 2-3 classic old Georgian townhouses. Lobby is quite beautifully appointed, as are the restaurant, bar, and library areas. Easy to walk into/back from New Town and Old Town PLUS not far from Stockbridge and Dean Village (both great for wanders).
The room, to be honest, was a big disappointment. After reading so many reviews about high ceilings, large windows, views onto either the garden or of the areas to the north of the hotel, I was put in a room on the garden level (which would also be known as the basement...). Low ceilings, smaller (and fewer) windows, less sunlight, and a view of the car park (we were literally at ground level with the parking lot and could watch folks pull in and out of the lot).

Staff were very friendly (first class service), view from window was amazing, breakfast was nice. Impressive cocktail and whisky menu.
Definitely more expensive than we would normally pay, but felt if everything's expensive in Edinburgh, why not pay a bit more and treat ourselves.
Room was slightly on the warm side.
