The location is good. The rooms are big and spacious and each have showers and toilets, not out in the hallway. Elevator. The staff seemed really nice.
We waited a full hour to check in, and we didn’t even arrive at check in time. Prior to arrival we had gotten a lot of very weird messages through booking.com from the hostel, but as they were not optimised for the booking.com message system, we couldn’t use them. A lot of the guests who were waiting with us had the same problem. There was supposed to have been a link to fill in the pre-check in form, which is really lengthy, and made the build up of waiting guests. The mattress is plastic covered, which you will hear and feel all night. There are no bed lights, only the ceiling light. So either everyone has light or no one, or you’ll have to use your phone as a mag light e.g. if you wish to read in bed. There is a bar at the ground level open to everyone, making the place quite dirty besides inside the rooms. The shared kitchen was so sticky I just left and only ate out, I would never eat anything made in there. Like most places in Edinburg, the city doesn’t allow for window renovations, so the rooms are quite drafty and cold. I slept with an extra blanket I brought from home, but I don’t believe you should have to travel with extra blankets. However, I didn’t ask in the reception, so I don’t know if I could have gotten an extra. You put our own bedding on and off and need to remember to bring it to the reception as you leave.

The hygiene facilities are very good, they have separated the shower and the toilet and the facilities are modern.
The bunk beds come with curtains, which is really good because it provided sufficient privacy.

Very good location, very central and near the Waverley station and main tourist attractions. We love playing darts, the arcade game and pool.
The room would be spacious if it didn't have a double bed; it was very hard to move around, and the bed was ever so noisy. We could not move in the bed without waking each other up, so it was squeaky.
The hotel offers free cleaning, which we didn't need, but it would be great if they had left extra rubbish bin bags, as we had to improvise with what we had.
Another crucial thing for us was the noise level; we could hear EVERYTHING happening outside (with the window closed), drunk people were shouting outside until very late (3 am on one of the nights), we could hear cars, glass breaking, and music. We do not recommend this hotel for families who like to sleep early (10-11 pm) and wake up early to explore the city.
We were also unlucky that in one night we had a group of teenage boys on the same floor as us, and rooms sharing the same wall, they were banging the doors, talking very loudly, making a lot of noise until 1 am. At first, I asked them to stop as we needed to wake up at 6 am the next day for an excursion to the Highlands, but they continued as if nothing had happened. It was very difficult to reach the reception. I texted them via booking.com, but no one replied. I called the number on the card and was coming as invalid. I finally Googled the hotel, called the number, and they transferred me to the reception. The receptionist came over, and the boys got quiet for 10 minutes, then continued to make noise, mocking the receptionist. Perhaps the hotel should have a rule for teenagers to not sleep without a responsible adult in their room, as this group in particular had 3-4 adults in the same group. It was an awful experience.

The room was clean and well managed. The cages under the bed for belongings were a great alternative to lockers with a lot more space. The location is ideal as well on Cowgate right in the old town. Would go again.
The keys cards for the rooms were quite finicky, that was pretty frustrating. They say they have a 24hr reception but I couldn't find anyone there at 6am which was annoying.

The location was absolutely perfect. It made getting around so easy, with everything I needed just a short distance away. Definitely one of the highlights of my stay!
Overall, it was okay, but unfortunately the noise levels in the evening were quite disruptive. It was hard to relax or get a good night’s sleep due to the constant noise. I hope the management can address this issue for future guests.

The location is perfect and the staff were lovely.
The room was tiny, no room for luggage. Beds were bearable but awful pillows. The worst thing was the noise from downstairs that went on throughout the night and morning. Then there were giggling drunk girls in the hallway and someone decided to use the hairdryer around 4am. I eventually fell asleep around 4.30. A good reminder of why I don’t stay in hostels.
