The staff was very helpful. The rooms were very comfortable. The front desk answered every question we had, booked taxis for us, and in general took excellent care of us. Breakfast was included and was quite a good assortment even though there was some remodeling that made it necessary to bring food back to your room. I would stay here again.

Lack of facilities and cramped public areas due to re turn work which I wasn’t told about until after I had booked.
I had 10 rooms and asked if there was anything the hotel could offer to off set some of the lack of amenity to be told I could use the gym in the sister hotel!
Would not even provide offer of free parking when I proposed that.
No bar facilities or restaurant and Breakfast ‘on the go’ which some of my guests avoided, including myself.
I was left embarrassed as it was too late to change after I was told about the refurb works….hotel shouldn’t have been open during the refurb, or price reduction/compensation offered. Poor.

Under complete refurbishment - no reception only staff entrance with a makeshift desk . No water in the morning , breakfast collect and take to room - nowhere to sit and eat , and no apology or notice to advise so an alternative location could be chosen . Shockingly bad and over £200 !!!

Also I do think 4pm check in is a bit late and not very flexible!
And really annoyingly when going down to collect our breakfast at 9a.m. the cleaning cart was sitting right outside our room! We still had 2 hours until we checked out!

This was a trip planned for an event for a 60th birthday and was dissapointing.
Especially as the marriot chain are still selling this as a premium establishment... I don't really feel it lived up to the marriot name.

Very nice and spacious room for family of 3 persons with possibility to cook. Excellent location close to the old down and in proximity of nice park. Very easy to reach many historical places by walking.
Renovation of breakfast room just started when we arrived. Had to pick-up the breakfast from smaller room and eat in your room - it was quite OK when you got used to it. Only one lift in the premises caused little bit occasional waiting time.

We picked this hotel due to it's close proximity to the start of the Edinburgh Marathon
This is a very expensive hotel. £419 for one night. This doesn't include parking. I booked it approx 9 months before my stay. But I received an email a few weeks before my stay (when all other hotels in the proximity were fully booked) to say that there was renovation work happening and there would be no reception or lounge area in the hotel. Further that breakfast would be limited and you would need to take it on a tray back to your room.
Despite this being a very expensive hotel there was no offer of discount for the inconvenience.
In this event, the check-in process was chaotic with a tiny space with no space to move and staff who didn't care - worse they were condescending about the situation stating that they sent an email. As if sending an email two weeks before makes it okay. They should have discounted the stay given they were giving a lesser experience than what I paid for.
Further, breakfast was a shambles. A tiny room with people attempting to fill trays to then take up to their rooms.
This hotel is a disgrace and is not up to standard of other Marriott's.
