Location
On returning to our room in the evening we found a cockroach on the wall which is completely unacceptable. We caught it and gave it to the staff, we then had to stay in the same room overnight and were given a very small refund given the cost of the room and expectations of such a standard of hotel. We were subsequently moved rooms but not before a sleepless night and having to go through all of our luggage.

Disappointing
Breakfast was good.
'Family Room' was very small, which I do expect in a city centre but this one had the worst layout I've ever come across. Bathroom had a bath and a shower cubicle (which extended to half the bedroom and blocked the entrance corridor). Bathroom door had frosted panels and opened right next to the main bed blocking all access, plus if anyone used the bathroom in the night the light illuminated the entire room. The toilet was separate and had no wash basin or bin and was basically a small grey cupboard. What's the point of having a separate toilet if you can't wash your hands and have to open two doors to get to a sink? I found the whole layout bizarre - there is a well established way of designing a basic hotel room to minimise all these issues and maximise space and this one failed completely. Room was very hot (in November) and temperature couldn't be controlled. Windows opened (thank goodness) but very noisy and we were woken by road drilling at 7:50am on Saturday morning. There was no where to put anything, and no where to stand or dress except on a bed. Swimming pool is tiny and full of small children - don't expect to swim or relax. After explaining to my very sensible 13 year old why she wasn't allowed in the jacuzzi as it was adults only I was landed on several times by toddlers whose parents let them run in and out of it. No staff to stop this. Was told we had to ask permission to use the pool so they could limit numbers but it was overrun.

To be honest, nothing
We were not happy with our stay at your hotel. It wasn’t worth of the money we paid especially the room was very small and no basic facilities. The toilet and showers were separate and not secured at all. We are regretting that we stayed at Novotel Edinburgh. Please contact me if need any further information.
