The hotel gave a lot of attention to our special trip. We got engaged and staff were very helpful in organising extras!
It was pretty faultless! The building is hot and we caught during some high temperatures, but the fan we had was sufficient

The room was excellent, as were the staff and the facilities in general. We were celebrating our engagement and the personal touches provided in light of this were lovely. I was looking for something special and Nira Caledonia did not disappoint. Definitely will visit again!

The location
The extremely overinflated price for a very small and average room.
Cigarette burn in the robe.
Requested a quiet room and was placed near the cupboard which housed a very noisy water tank.
No water in fridge, no shower gel - rectified on request.
No nail file but empty packet left.
Chipped and old bath.
Fire alarm went off and the procedure was poor, no clear communication about what was going on and no roll call. Thankfully a false alarm.
Window did not open and seemed no aircon.
Breakfast was great - really good food. Service at breakfast was a bit poor as we weren’t informed of what was on offer or included.

We thoroughly enjoyed our three-night stay at this charming hotel. Our spacious room on the fourth floor was a true delight – incredibly comfortable and equipped with everything we needed. The staff were exceptional, consistently professional, and always eager to assist, making our stay even more pleasant.
The hotel's location offers the best of both worlds: a remarkably quiet and safe neighborhood for restful nights, yet within a manageable distance of Edinburgh's iconic sights. We found the 20-25 minute walk to Edinburgh Castle and the Old Town's attractions to be an enjoyable part of our daily routine, even with Edinburgh's famously hilly terrain. However while we enjoyed the walk each day the hilly terrain might present a challenge for some visitors.

We had booked the Nira to stay somewhere close to the Botanics as we were getting married there on the Saturday. We had booked a wee double but on arrival we were told they had upgraded us to the junior suite which was stunning! They had left a lovely card and chocolates in the room for us. On the Saturday of the wedding they sent up a bottle of champagne for us. All these extras added to a very special time for us. All the staff we so welcoming, attentive and very friendly. We can't thank them enough.

A super area to stay, away from the busy streets of tourists. Definitely a hip place, with Stockbridge only minutes away full of cool cafes, pubs and second hand/charity shopping. The staff were also so helpful and accommodating.
The water pressure was too low in the sink.

Great room, loved the garden view, loved the ambiance. Spacious bathroom, quality toiletries, very clean. Great assistance from day staff
I hate the lack of soundproofing. My room was on the first floor, and if someone is speaking loudly on the ground floor it feels like they're right at your door. I understand the charm of the old building and doors but it is quite annoying.

Staff at Nira Caledonia (Abi particularly) were wonderful. Room was lovely and bed was comfortable. The location was great for us. Close to lovely restaurants but still a bit removed from the hustle and bustle. Only thing that could be improved was the temperature of the shower which was a bit hard to get consistently hot but overall was a fabulous place to stay!

The red carpet was out for guests and the service matched. The room was beautiful. The shower had a rainfall head with 4 jets on the front. The room had space for two comfy chairs, one provided a view of the garden. Very satisfying full Scottish breakfast. The staff were so friendly and efficient. The young woman at reception is the nicest person I’ve met in any hotel. If you want red carpet treatment, this is the hotel for you.

I have stayed in Nira Caledonia before and really liked it. Staff are very friendly and helpful. You have to be prepared to walk up some steep steps, which was fine for me. The rooms are small but very comfortable and the bathroom is great. Both times my room has been very quiet. The continental breakfast is excellent! This time I also had dinner in the restaurant, which was very enjoyable. Next time I come to Edinburgh I will certainly consider staying in NIra Caledonia again.
The heating seemed to have a mind of its own. My room got quite chilly in the evening and the staff did everything they could to rectify it - even brought an electric radiator to warm the room up (thank you so much), which I turned off before going to bed. At 3.00 in the morning the main heating suddenly came on!
