We absolutely loved the Motel One. The location was perfect for sightseeing. The hotel sits right in the middle of all of the Edinburgh action yet is still quiet and comfortable. Prior to arrival, I asked to be assigned a room in the front of the hotel with 3 large picture windows. We were delighted to have been assigned to a room with the largest of the 3 picture windows overlooking a lovely medieval street leading to the heart of Edinburgh. The room was quite large, and the staff was very accommodating. The lounge area and hotel bar were comfortable and cozy. We had a wonderful stay and wished we could have stayed longer!
We loved everything about this hotel including the room, staff and location. Our only regret was that we could not stay longer! If we ever have the opportunity to stay in this lovely city again, we will definitely choose the Motel One as our home base.

Hotel was stylish and nice - not at all what I was expecting from a place with "Motel" in the name! The lobby and bar were well decorated and had a good drink selection. Location was perfect - right near Cockburn street and the train station. Staff was friendly and helpful and held our luggage for us.
Our room was comfortable, but the tv was not a smart tv - Every other room we had in Scotland had a smart tv. Also a lot of the literature in the room was in German not English, which we thought was odd. The price was very high, even given the great location, but we heard this was due to it being August with the Fringe Fest going on in Edinburgh. It was nearly twice the price of the same room a week earlier, so that was a bit frustrating.

The location is fantastic - so close to the train station and all the attractions. Everything was clean and tidy, with new and modern decor. The bed was comfy.
The room was very small - considering the £300 a night price tag. It was during August (we booked 8 months in advance but it was The Fridge Festival) where prices are high everywhere, but it seems criminal to me to ask this price for a room that is not a great deal bigger than the bed (it was a large bed - but not a lot of room around it and a very small bathroom too). Of course the rooms look bigger in the hotel pics.
