I had a very poor experience at Mercure Edinburgh Haymarket.
On arrival, I was first given a room on the first floor where the heating was not working and the phone in the room was also broken. I was then moved to Room 025 on the basement level.
From the moment you enter the hotel there was a noticeable damp smell, and it became much worse on the lower levels. The basement corridor area had clear signs of damp damage, including bubbling and peeling paint, and it gave the strong impression that the issue had been painted over rather than properly fixed.
After staying in the basement room, I woke up with a severe allergic reaction, including puffy eyes and a runny nose, and felt unwell for well over a day afterwards. I raised this with the hotel and followed up formally, but no refund was offered.
What was most disappointing was not just the condition of the room and lower-level areas, but the lack of any meaningful response afterwards. I was offered the possibility of a future upgrade, but that is not an adequate response when a guest has had a health-related issue during the stay.
I would strongly advise anyone with allergies or respiratory sensitivities to be very cautious, especially if allocated a basement room.

The hotel room was very very dusty and smelt like dirty socks not sure if it was the carpet but it was not a great stay. I also asked for a baby cot they didn’t provide one even though I booked the stay a while ago and emailed them day before. They didn’t even mention it was not worth the money

Very nice, very clean, some staff very attentive. Room is big and well equiped. They even left us a nice hand written note to recieve us with a Lindle chocolate and water.
Some other staff wasn’t so attentive (we had 1 package delivered to the hotel and when we went to front desk to collect it they weren’t very eager to search; they even said “someone else took it already”). Location is fine, nice and safe, but some 15 min walking from main attractions.

Room was good size.
Room 419, very loud rumbling noise from the building .
Restaurant staff offhand and not interested in interacting.
Actually quite a long walk from Haymarket station.
Expensive for what it was.

Comfortable bed, blackout curtains, tasty breakfast and fresh too.
Couldn't control the temperature and hot drink station in room wasn't refilled. We were there for 3 nights and needed to keep getting supplies from reception.
