The Scholar is a newly refurbished hotel located in the beautiful grounds of the Pollack Estate, just a few minutes’ walk from Arthurs Seat, Holyrood Park and the Meadows and within walking distance of all of the City’s world famous landmarks. The local Southside neighborhood buzzes with small restaurants, bars and an eclectic mix of independent shops. All bedrooms are luxurious and feature large beds, Elite mattresses and quality linen to ensure the best possible night’s sleep. All rooms also include a TV with a whole host of channels, award winning Novus tea and cafetiere coffee and a desk with ample work space. Our large bathrooms include rainfall showers, Arran Aromatics toiletries and fluffy towels. The hotel is about 20 min walk to Princess street, pretty close to Arthur's seat. It doesn't look great from the outside but the room was just like in the photos. The breakfast has vegan and vegetarian options, which is a plus, but it doesn't have vegetables except for baked tomatoes. I would have liked more vegetables. We also ate lunch at the hotel one day and it was excellent. All in all is a good hotel but the price of almost 400 gbp per night doesn't reflect the amenities and location in my opinion but we were there during the Fringe Festival and everything was in this price range or even more expensive.

Disappointing
There was an issue with the WiFi which meant I could not connect at all during my stay. The staff did not take this seriously and were unable to fix the issue. I was given several different reasons, all of which were untrue. Finally, the third staff member I spoke to said there had been recent work done so maybe it was that. My son could not connect his iPhone either. We had no problems connecting elsewhere. The restaurant was frustratingly slow - we waited 20+ mins for 2 drinks to arrive and then another 40+ mins for two burgers which arrived without chips because they had run out at 8pm! They had added some other new potatoes, which were oven baked and still hard. The whole experience was disappointing for a high luxury price and supposedly 4 stars. I won’t be returning.
