I recently stayed at The Scholar Hotel in Edinburgh, and it truly exceeded my expectations. It’s a peaceful, quiet retreat nestled among beautiful trees and greenery, offering a calm atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxing after a day in the city.
What truly stood out for me was the exceptional service. The staff were not only professional and friendly, but genuinely went out of their way to help — even before being asked. Their kindness and efficiency made a lasting impression.
After a disappointing experience with another booking platform, I made a same-day reservation at The Scholar. Despite the short notice, the team welcomed us warmly and checked us into all three rooms quickly and smoothly. Their support during a stressful moment is something I’ll never forget.
The location is also fantastic — just a 2-minute walk to the bus station, with regular buses that reach the city centre in about 10 minutes.
I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh. I’ll definitely be staying here again!
I truly appreciate the hotel’s beautiful surroundings, with its lush greenery and abundance of trees — it creates a wonderfully serene atmosphere. However, given the natural setting, I would recommend scheduling regular ceiling cleaning, as we noticed a number of spiders in one of the rooms we booked.

This was a return stay for us as we stayed in 2024. This is a fantastic hotel set in a secure area within walking distance of the city centre. 30 minutes gets you to the royal mile at a leisurely pace. The room was very comfortable and the staff went out of their way to get the room which would suit us best. We were in room 104 and thanks to the American lady in front desk for her assistance in choosing an airy room. The hotel also had passes for the nearby gym which was excellent. All in all a great stay.

Good
Fast check-in and check-out, location is good, welcoming staff, room size was excellent, and nice surroundings.
Housekeeping was average, WiFi was extremely bad, and breakfast options were very limited.

We had a top floor room that had opening windows, including the skylights in the ceiling. The room was spacious and had two comfortable chairs and a table as well as a king size bed. There was free parking and a lovely breakfast selection. Staff were great and always helpful.
Nothing.

It is located in the university accommodation compound surrounded by green mature trees and far from the noise. A short walk to the bus station if you didn't drive and free private parking if you do, which is RARE in Edinburgh (this was the selling point for us). About half an hour easy bus ride to Town Center. There is a restaurant that serves good food, drink and music, the same restaurant serves breakfast. Elevator service, helpful staff and the room is the size of a regular home bedroom. Toilet was clean and with good water pressure. Good shower ammenities too. Coffee machine, kettle, tea, hot chocolate and cookies were provided. Decent bed and pillows.
No AC and can be warm at night. We tried opening the window but since our room was exactly above the restaurant and its outdoor sitting area, we could hear every conversation and jokes the guests were at. Stains on carpet and mouldy smell along the corridoor, from the carpet. No space to open the suitcases and since there is no storage space in the closet, we had no choice but to move the chairs around just to have our suitcases on the floor opened. The bathroom is clean but the sink is tiny with no place to hang our hand/face towels. A hook or two would help. The shower has no door but just a small panel of glass and the bathroom got wet when someone showered. Can be dangerous and slippery.

The room is beautiful, and so is the bathroom. The location in the middle of the university campus was something very special.
The rooms are not air-conditioned and the windows could only be opened a bit. Breakfast was nothing special for a 4-star hotel.

Friendly staff, they were very generous and gave me some chocolate because it was my birthday.
Nice breakfast buffet, clean and modern room.
The location was not great, it was quite a walk from the centre but the hotel was still very expensive in my personal opinion.
Also the curtains in the room were hilarious and bizarre - the curtains were straight up and down but the windows were at an angle so they didn't block any sunlight out.

The rooms were very comfortable and nicely decorated.
The shower area needs to be enclosed. A bigger person would end up splashing water all over the bathroom. Possibly also attach a dispenser for the shampoo, shower gel and conditioner instead of placing it on the floor.
The room I got was facing the road, which is noisy in the morning with deliveries etc, especially with an open window during a warmer summer. Maybe some form of air circulator to get in some outdoor air

Pleasant
Very friendly staff at the breakfast room. Peaceful surroundings at the university campus next to a park and views to Arthur’s Seat. Walkable distance to city center, about 2 km.
Below the standard of a 4 star hotel, e.g. no air-conditioning and dietary options at breakfast. Very pricy for this level of quality. Cleaning personnel didn’t perform very well, maybe students?
Uber drivers did not drive up to the hotel, but left customers at the university reception, which is not nice if it rains.
