The Scholar is a newly refurbished hotel located in the beautiful grounds of the Pollack Estate, just a few minutes’ walk from Arthurs Seat, Holyrood Park and the Meadows and within walking distance of all of the City’s world famous landmarks. Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely location, quiet, nice leafy area right under Arthur's Seat, walkable into town and private car park. Spotlessly clean, very comfy bed, coffee machine was a bonus and quality hospitality tray. Great to have a restaurant on site too and had a very tasty supper there when we were too tired to go out.
Somewhat annoying that despite the size of the room the only mirror was hiding in a corner outside the bathroom - nowhere near a chair or power point. No hooks/rails in the bathroom for a hand towel or clothes. The shower was disappointingly feeble and the screen was completely inadequate so the floor became flooded. For a superior room which looks lovely on arrival, in fact the practical details are sorely lacking and need attention. Some small improvements would make a big difference.

Very quiet and calm area, with beautiful surroundings. Bus station very close by, easy to get around town. Staff was very kind and welcoming. Bed is super comfortable and big. Breakfast great, with plenty options. We had dinner at the restaurant one night and were amazed how tasty the food was!
The room we got was much more modest and somewhat outdated than the one on photos, that we booked and thought we would get. It was also on ground level, very low, so anyone passing by could see inside at your eye level. That didn't feel comfortable so we kept the shutters down all the time and that made the room very dark. Although the area itself is really quiet and there's basically no sound whatsoever coming from the outside during the night, a lot of noise came from within. Starting around 6:30-7 am someone was constantly slamming heavy doors right next to us (a lot of staff rooms there so I assume it was them coming in and out of their working space). It was very noisy and you could feel the bed tremble everytime. It was constant, every 2 min. Luckily, we were waking up around that time anyway, but if you're planning to sleep in, make sure to ask for a room that's not on the ground floor. The bathroom was quite outdated (tub with a shower curtain and cracked floor tiles). Generally missing a few hooks for jackets/towels to make the room more practical, and a light above the bathroom sink would be perfect. But all in all, it was clean and comfortable, which is in the end most important!

Reported washbasin plug didn't work on Friday, told it would be sorted. Nothing had happened by time we left. Just ' a sorry we can't do anything until Monday ' would have been better than being ignored. Otherwise stay ok.

The hotel exceeded my expectations. Great and bright room, bigger than what I normally find in the UK. Very kind, friendly and helpful personnel available 24/7, a good breakfast and breakfast area and a nice terrace for when it's not raining. About 25-30 min. walk to Royal Mile and a bus station about 2 minutes from the hotel with many bus lines. Very quiet the area during the evenings, no noise from the street. A plus for me was the coffe/tea maker in the room and coffe pods/ tea essentials refilled every day. I will definetly come back to the hotel if I find myself in Edinburgh again.

The breakfast was good and had ample choices. The room, and especially the bathroom, were spacious. The area nestled inside the university was very nice, with tree-lined areas for walking.
I didn't like the parking situation. I was particularly annoyed that they didn't inform me when I arrived, after I had messaged them three times asking for details about the parking situation, that we needed a parking permit to park on the university grounds if a spot became available. So, when we finally found a place, I still had to run back to the hotel to ask again about the parking, and only then did they give me the parking permit. For a 4-star hotel, I feel that the parking situation should be better delineated and communicated. That was poor planning on their side. Also, the mattresses were too soft. We also had asked for twin beds, but they gave us twin beds that were attached. I believe that if you request twin beds, they should be separate, not connected to form a super king-size bed.
