The Scholar is a newly refurbished hotel located in the beautiful grounds of the Pollack Estate, just a few minutes’ walk from Arthurs Seat, Holyrood Park and the Meadows and within walking distance of all of the City’s world famous landmarks. The local Southside neighborhood buzzes with small restaurants, bars and an eclectic mix of independent shops. All bedrooms are luxurious and feature large beds, Elite mattresses and quality linen to ensure the best possible night’s sleep. All rooms also include a TV with a whole host of channels, award winning Novus tea and cafetiere coffee and a desk with ample work space. Our large bathrooms include rainfall showers, Arran Aromatics toiletries and fluffy towels. Wonderful
Great variety of breakfast. We didn't have lunch or dinner there. The room size was generous and you can tell it was recently decorated. Very nicely decorated and comfortable chairs and bed too. Tea selection in room was good. The bathroom was big also with fluffy towels provided. All the staff were friendly, helpful and nothing too difficult for them. Hotel is in a good location and walking distance to start a hike to Arthur's Seat. Multiple local buses that get to city center in 20 minutes are a short walk away.
The radiators could be warmer. Even after we turned it to high we still felt a little chilly.

Location, staff, new decor downstairs
The new furniture in the bedroom, ridiculous, you have to leave everything out on top of the table or leave everything in suitcase, NO DRAWERS! What on earth are they thinking! It must be a nightmare for the cleaners as well as so much stuff to clean round. I think who ever thought no drawers has never stayed in an hotel.

The rooms were lovely and it was very clean.
The staff didn’t really seem interested in helping solve issues. No response to issues raised. The service received was exceptionally inconsistent and not reflective of the price per night.

Lovely hotel in a quiet location. Edinburgh old town is approximately a half hour walk away, although you can catch a bus outside if needed. Room was spacious and comfortable. Tea and coffee was varied, and excellent quality. Bathroom was stocked with really nice shampoos and shower gels etc. Breakfast was lovely. A nice buffet and hot food selection. Quality ingredients, well presented. Staff were exceptional. Welcoming, informative and always smiling. Will love to return.
The only criticism was the warmth of the room. This was due to the very cold and windy weather. The room had 2 radiators which would normally be sufficient but at either end of the room, on the outside wall, were 2 vents which were permanently open, probably for ventilation. But due to the weather,an icy draught blew into the room, really chilling it. But it won't stop me wanting to return.
