Staff were lovely
Very poor bathroom towels for this rate of hotel and bar area wasn’t very clean. You could hear people in all the rooms so noise was an issue.

The location was good with good transport links to central Edinburgh
This hotel should not be classified as four star. Staff were lovely but the hotel is very under staffed, both in the restaurant and on the domestic/cleaning side, seemingly. Our room smelt stale. The soft furnishings smelt dreadful. The decor is very down at heel. The bed sheets were clean but the bed was badly made and frankly the sheets did not fit the bed. The bottom sheet came untucked at the slightest movement. Tea and coffee making facilities were available in the room but the milk cartons were out of date. We had a very overpriced, underwhelming meal on our first night; the food was frankly bland. (To be fair the cost of this meal was taken off our bill at check out). Breakfast was similarly overpriced and disappointing. My husband’s order of kippers did not even get processed on the first morning. The “Full English” cooked to order came out with some items not just overcooked but burnt and others barely warm. On the continental buffet the toaster seemed only to deliver uncooked or burnt toast and pastries were unavailable. On out third morning the coffee machine broke down….. To add insult to injury when we booked we paid full price. On the day we arrived we checked the room rate and it had halved!!

Free on site car parking, which made the trip stress free finding a space was easy and would mean we would visit again. Comfy beds and extra pillows. Room window opened for fresh air.
Lovely evening mea in chezMal on site it was Thursday half price steak night and although that was the steak only any sides were extra! David the waiter went above beyond he was very attentive and helpful. Receptionist very helpful and quick check in. Proximity to tram stop and lovely area.
Room was badly lit. No air con. Breakfast expensive. Bar closed early. Didn't think it was any better than a premier inn, thought a Malmaison would be something special.
Postcode on booking.com lead to dead end and the wrong side of hotel when set in sat nav.

Breakfast service or lack of . Turned up sat at dirty table full of dishes and I had to ask for dishes to be taken away . When breakfast arrived I had to ask for clean cutlery .
