I booked 2 rooms here for 3 nights in July. The hotel and rooms were clean. No issues with the sheets, bed, pillows or towels. There was a separate knob just for temperature control for the shower which was amazing. However the hot/cold water from the bathroom tap was a bit fiddly. Room is fully air-conditioned, which is a nice plus. Mostly not needed as the weather was not too hot even in July. There are wall sockets near both sides of the bed.
Toiletries are available on request. The breakfast spread was ok: full English, a variety of cheeses, coffee machine, some fresh fruit, haggis etc. The front door is locked after 6pm, but you can swipe the room card to unlock it.
The hotel is right next to St.Andrew square and a 10 min walk from Waverly station, although it's uphill from the station. Dean village, Calton hill, the royal mile etc. are all within walking distance. However the terrain is not flat so be prepared to walk up and down hills.
Only a minor inconvenience, there is no room service, you have to pick up your food from the restaurant at the lobby level.

The hotel was superbly located to walk to sights. We were there for the Edinburgh Fringe so it was lovely to be able to dip in and out but be close enough to walk and get some great food. The hotel had a wonderful vibe to it - not bohemian but interesting and all very clean. Our room was a little small but it was great for what we needed and very quiet too. The bathroom was lovely - good size! The bed and bedding was very comfortable and the bed a good size. Breakfast runs for quite a few hours which is great as it means you can get a table. It's a buffet style with plenty of choice and it is fresh and clean. The staff are very friendly and helpful and there is a lovely informality about checking in and out. We took two rooms and obviously more expensive during the Festival. My son loved it so much he will be returning soon. Security for hotel is very good too by using key cards to access lifts and hotel after 20:00pm.
So pleased I'm don't think anything could have been improved!

Great location- really nice stylish rooms
The bathroom lights were broken - I arrived late so didn’t want to go back to reception and just had to deal with it by keeping door open but that should have been spotted by cleaning staff .
In a room costing this much a bottle of water or access to water dispenser on each floor is expected / a very basic requirement which is not provided.
Fresh milk is provided in a small bottle but there is no fridge - the room was over 20’c …. Surely this is a food standards issue

Great location in a quieter corner, but easy walk to all the popular tourist spots. We loved the balcony room, awesome views, spacious, fantastic shower. Good breakfast and bar, you can order pizza late if hungry.

Wonderful
We stayed at Idris St Andrews and had a wonderful experience. The location is fantastic, right on St Andrews Square, putting us within easy walking distance of everything. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The room itself was very cute and tastefully appointed, and we were lucky enough to have a balcony with a lovely view over the city. Highly recommend.
