Nothing. They lost our reservations
Couldn't tell you. They lost our reservations even though we arrived early (10:45ish am), they acknowledged our stay and stored our luggage. When we came back after the regular check-in time to go to our rooms we were informed that they had lost mine and my friends' reservations and they gave away our rooms. While waiting for the cab to another hotel we watched MULTIPLE people check in after we first arrived. Instead of bumping someone who showed up later than us.
Even though the manager, Agnes found us rooms at another Holiday Inn Express and was kind enough to pay for our cabs and dinner, it was all the way across town and because of that we missed out on being able to explore the royal mile very much our visit Dean's village like we planned due to lack of time. We specifically made reservations for a hotel near the royal mile only to get moved all the way across town near the ocean terminal. Very disappointed to miss out on our short stay.

The location was great — everything was within walking distance. We explored all of Edinburgh on foot and had no trouble getting to the hotel.
The rooms were a little small, but we were aware of that before we arrived.

The staff were friendly and helpful.
The room we had was on the main floor with an alley right beside us. Our room initially was filled with the smell of smoke (staff and i agreed it was someone walking in the alley). The smell dissipated so that wasn't a problem. This room for some reason had a difficult time with the Wi-Fi. We were at the same hotel days before but had a room on the second floor that didn't have the same problems. Also the light from the alley was visible all night. We couldn't get the curtains to cover all the way. So we were met not only the lights but also the traffic lights and noise from the parking lot of the buildings next door.
First visit was by far our happiest stay in Scotland.

The breakfast was very good each morning. The service was very good. Very good location in reference to Royal Mile and the castle. Overall, a good experience at this location.

The south cay alley great for travel to tourist areas
Shower valves hard to figure out water trickled out
backing up . Lift was malfunctioning going up & down pressed button but keep going up . Hard to check out with suitcases if lift not working correctly

The staff was wonderful and the lobby area had a great dining option for snacks and drinks. The hotel was very conveniently located right off the royal mile.
The room was very tiny and there wasn’t enough linens/pillows/towels for our group of 3
