The room was quiet and comfortable with plenty of space for three adult travelers. We especially appreciated the front desk staff who was available to answer all questions and provided assistance in securing taxis when necessary. Location is within easy walking distance of much of what we wanted to do. The breakfast provided at no extra charge was very
Complete with something for everyone. Free tea and coffee available 24 hours a day was also a nice touch.

1. Rude Behaviour by Receptionist: The receptionist guy on duty was very rude and unprofessional. My mother, who was with me, felt upset and unwelcomed by his attitude. I do not know his name, but he had medium, length grey hair, glasses, and tattoos on his arms. When I informed him about my mother’s sensitivity, his response was shockingly inappropriate, he stated that if she has such sensitivities, we should “go to a five-star hotel instead of coming here.” In a laughing face. This response was not only disrespectful but discriminatory, especially since we had simply asked for assurance that the blankets and carpet were clean and free of animal traces.
2. Sink Installed Incorrectly (Reversed): The sink in the bathroom was installed in a reversed way. This made it very awkward and difficult to use for something as basic as washing hands. Why would such an impractical setup be approved in a guest bathroom?
3. Unhygienic Blanket: Upon arrival, the blanket provided was dirty and had an unpleasant, eggy smell. This is unacceptable at any level of hospitality, but especially at an IHG. The result was that my mother developed sensitivity around her mouth (see attached picture). This is a clear breach of hygiene standards and caused distress during our stay.
Overall, this stay caused significant discomfort, unwelcome, and health concerns, particularly for my mother as she is old. It is deeply troubling that a hotel under the IHG brand would allow such poor service, lack of cleanliness, and unprofessional staff behaviour.
I am therefore requesting a formal written response to this complaint.
This experience has left me questioning the reputation of the Holiday Inn Express brand, and I expect a prompt reply.

Hotel staff were friendly. Great breakfast options. Clean rooms. Located close to Calton Hill.
Location was located downhill from train station so maneuvering luggage was a bit difficult going uphill. This was a minor issue. Extra bed/sofa bed was not very comfortable.

Great location and friendly staff. Cleanliness was second to none. Great breakfast and free tea and coffee facilities throughout the day and night.
Stayed in this hotel previously and there is nothing I didn't like about it. I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody wishing to stay in Edinburgh.
