Nothing springs to mind.
Fancied a short break between Christmas and New Year, thought we'd see some of the famous illuminated attractions of Edinburgh. Booked here with booking.com because it seemed the best located hotel with car parking. Arrived to find the parking was neither included or on site, so I went on a 20 minute round trip to drop off the car while the wife checked in. When I got to the hotel she texted me the room number so I got on the lift, and thats when things started to go downhill.
The lift stopped and jammed between levels. Tried the alert button for five minutes, but when that kept ringing out with no response, I called the wife who alerted the desk, who then eventually got me free. They were quite practiced at the lift override procedure, as it happens all the time, apparently. When I got out the lift, Fiona told me that the room we had been assigned was laughably awful, tiny, and smelled really bad, like the grease trap in a chip shop, think the window was next to the kitchen vents.
We left the bags in the chip shop room as we were now late for our planned afternoon activities, hoping that the staff would find us a habitable room by the time we got back. When we got back in the evening, we had been moved to the next room along, it didn't smell quite as bad, but it was freezing cold, and the heating controls seemed to make no difference, but it was late, we were tired, so we just put on a few more layers of clothes and went to bed. Not much sleep, as there was an unrelenting roaring noise from the plant room seemingly next door.
Pretty hellish stay overall, glad to leave, don't think we'll use hilton products again, for pleasure or work, they used to be good. I expect every hotel has 'those rooms' that are very rarely used, for good reason. You took our money and put us in one, that is unforgivable.

Very well located, the room had a fab view of the castle. Breakfast was good.

Location is great and staff are very friendly and helpful
It needs a huge refurb compared to other doubletrees. Thought it’d be a safe option but unfortunately not. The elevator was out, rooms are shabby with cracked tiles and worn furniture. The heating is temperamental (not great for Edinburgh in January). They don’t even provide a water glass for your room so if you need to take medication, be warned you’ll be doing it using a dirty coffee cup.

Breakfast was okay. Good value with the room booking deals. Staffs were friendly, especially the cleaning lady was very helpful. The hotel is located near the castle but not so busy streets, so it was ideal.
The bathroom was okay, only lacking in rails to hang wet towels. Had to use hangers from the wardrobe and hung it on the shower curtain rail.
