Pleasant
Location was ideal for our trips into Edinburgh.
Pool was very pleasant
Food was good.
Staff attentive
Disappointing that it is marked as a Scottish Manor House hotel, when in fact it has 100's of rooms in new extensions. Some located a very long way from reception and main hotel.
Reception was chaotic when we arrived and original allocated rooms were too far away from reception, food etc etc.
Breakfast, on all but one day was a complete rugby scrum. Queue to get a table. Too many people trying to serve themselves at the buffet. Mad! Staff were stressed and all a bit uncomfortable. We had a lovely girl serving us each morning, Iona, and she should be highly complimented! Made it as pleasant as possible. There were too many people staying at the hotel for the small dining room to cope properly. This is a 4* hotel and it should have been managed better. How about offering timed breakfast RESERVATIONS to ease the pressure?
There was a private function on the Saturday night, cars parking everywhere, including blocking the DISABLED places. When I complained, I was told 'we have a busy function on'! So what, I said! Access to the rooms ended up going through where the function was having some of their food, so rather interesting!

Very Good
The hotel provided excellent parking on arrival and a warm welcome by the reception team. The breakfast provided was varied and of a good quality catering for all tastes and dietary requirements.
The bar was well stocked and very reasonably priced. The grounds and sports facilities were of a good standard.
The room was dusty on all the flat services. The extractor fans did not work in any of the rooms we had booked. The shower worked following numerous attempts to switch from tap to shower head. There were no bath mats provided to prevent slips on the tiled floors.
No hairdryer was provided, and the iron and iron board were old and leaked water all over our clothes. The wardrobe was not able to hold all the clothes due to it not being deep enough.
On booking.com, it's claimed that this is a four star accommodation. I would rate it a low level 3. The photos do not provide a true reflection of the accommodation, which for our party was accustomed to a travel lodge from the early 00's.
Don't get me started on the numbering of the floors within the numerous lifts - so incredibly confusing.
3 pin plug sockets close to the bed would have been useful as they were none existent.

Fair
Was the cheapest option not that far from Edinburgh
Huge hotel, impersonal, more like a factory. Even breakfast it’s ok but at the same time regarding prices in Edinburgh was logical.

Wonderful
Beautiful hotel. Nice staff. Good sized room. Comfortable bed. Scenic landscape.
Don’t expect your room to be actually on the castle, they have a new building attached to it. Bathrooms could be better, mold in the shower and shower curtain.

Lovely atmosphere and scenario. Staff were attentive and friendly. Room was excellent and got upgraded last minute from standard double room to junior suite which made the trip! Defiantly go back if it was a suited location for our stay.
We had cleaners knocking on our door just before 10am to clean our room despite check out being 11am and we hadn’t attended breakfast yet.
Check out was 11am which was quite early considering we got back late from a concert that night and had to get up relatively early for breakfast before 11am. We went for breakfast at 10 and came back at 10.45. While getting our stuff sorted, the cleaners knocked again despite already speaking to them previously and politely reminding them our check out was 11am and we were just getting our things arranged. Not a big deal but felt like we were getting rushed out despite still having time…
Located 20 minutes outside the city, which we were aware of - and booked for the purpose of the highland show grounds. We travelled in to Edinburgh city which was a hassle to get a uber/taxi there and back as most of the drivers don’t like driving out that far. So, not ideal if you want to be in the centre or I’d recommend driving and taxis can be costly and time consuming. This isn’t a reflection of the hotels experience, just a note as we weren’t aware of the lack of drivers for transport in that area.

Very nice place close to Edinburgh, walk along the nature trail, eat apples from the tree and watch the birds. Pool and sauna are good, great breakfast, there is a playground!

The pool was good, the changing rooms were good.
The food at the brasserie was awful and really expensive. It was the equivalent of a two for one pub, but at four times the price. The staff were excellent though.
