Disappointing
Good location
Unfortunately the first room I was allocated had not been serviced. Bins not emptied. Bathroom not cleaned. Was then moved to another room which was very small and no view other than a roof top . There was about a foot from end of bed to the wall. Whilst staff quickly resolved it no offer of any compensation- free breakfast might have been nice and cost very little.

Very Good
Location perfect. Basement room quiet and clean. Staff helpful providing lots of ice.
The hot breakfast was tasty however it was all cold, on both mornings. The hot plates just were not enough to keep any temperature in the food.

Location is lovely. It’s quiet of a walk from the train station but once you get there location is nice. Sheets are clean crispy white but pillows are old and tough. Food is not good but service and costumer service is lovely. Basically Scottish people are super polite and caring and love to resolve any issues to show you a great hospitality. So staff was amazing. But I want the hotel owners to know that their hotel is not worth the expensive price at all. We reserved a room with two single beds since it was me and my college student age daughter. They offered us a very small like a tiny room (we could hardly move around), with one bed only. The room had no extra space for the second bed. They apologized and said that is all they have left. The air conditioning was not working in that room, window could not be open. It’s awful I got a huge migraine headache with those old hard pillows, for not being able to get any air in the room. It was very difficult not being able to fit in that small bed w my daughter. But the irony was they still charged me full amount of $330 US dollars. They said I booked through booking.com and therefore I had to speak to the booking.com to receive any discount for the terrible room and its condition they offered us. The Manager , Robert, seemed very polite, caring and nice and wanted to help us as he said, but his hands were tight since I had booked with booking.com. He offered us free breakfasts but we are not breakfast people. so that was not very helpful.
The second night they put us into a bigger room that the air conditioning was working and the room size was enough to put a second bed in for my daughter. So the manager tried to help. But i was still charged full price for a night that we could not sleep. In overall not the best experience with this hotel at all. I wouldn’t recommend it. But shot out to the manager who at least tried to help.
Plz see my first comment above. Thank you!

I’ve stayed here 3 years ago and on floor 3 and it was was wonderful. I was on the basement floor which is dark and dirty and worn. My view was a dirty cement staircase. When I said I did not like my room I was treated like I was the problem.
Your staff overall is great. Even a couple of staff (not front desk) said the basement is not good.
I paid good money to stay there based on my previous experience but this time was disappointing because of the basement floor experience.
The ditty areas are still lovely.
Basement floor experience was very disappointing

A reasonable selection of breakfast food. Quiet location at bedtime. Friendly staff. Overall, very clean public spaces and room.
Don't ask for poached eggs: they either take an absolute age to appear, while your accompanying food goes cold, or , after gentle reminders they fail to appear at all.
The twin beds appear to be much less than the usual three feet width. A little uncomfortable for a good night's sleep.

Disappointing
Excellently situated. Lovely building facade and entrance.
Didn’t respond to messages, did not answer the phone on more than 4 occasions trying to call to amend my booking. Was placed in disabled room, which wasn’t exactly the romantic room I’d hoped for from this hotel.

The room was huge and the bed was nice. The front desk staff and bar staff were lovely and the breakfast was good
The carpet and seating areas in our bedroom were filthy (stained), not nice at all - The cleaning staff came in to clean our room on our 2nd day - cleaned the bin took our used 2 large bathroom towels (which we had left hung up so they didn't need to take them) and then left us 1 towel in replacement..... They never replacd the used coffee pods and left the used coffee cups in the room - Also there was no water supplied to the room at all during our stay - We did ask for a jug of water but it never arrived

Room was not available on time. Air condition didn’t work and service at the restaurant for dinner was not clear. One day we were redirect to sit in any table and then ask to move to the bar but none told us we can order from there.
