The staff were so friendly. The swimming pool facilities were amazing. It was a lovely stay .Loved the food also.
No refrigerator in the room and finding my way to my room was funny.

Staff were very welcoming and we were very impressed with Bistro waiting staff and manager who tried hard to accommodate my complex dietary condition. Also, when my husband choked on his meal, one waiter very confidently intervened and was prepared to effect Heimlich manoeuvre when things settled naturally. The steaks we ordered were delicious.
Although we were not happy overall with our stay, we cannot praise the restaurant staff highly enough.
6 or 7 emails pre-visit urging us not to have rooms serviced. Not only is this unwelcoming, but justifying it as saving the environment is spurious given that they listed servicing the room as making up the bed and replenishing tea and coffee. Towels are a separate issue and it is now accepted practice to reuse them during your stay, but there are no cleaning products used in simply tidying the bed etc.
Also, the Bistro menu did not reflect the standard we expect from a Great Western Hotel and there was no information on allergens. When I asked if the terrine starter had onions or garlic, they were unable to say what was in it, suggesting that perhaps the food is not prepared on site.
At breakfast, no-one explained the buffet system.
All in all, and given that we paid £309 for one night, our stay did not meet expectations. The Great Western at Ayr Racecourse is much better by far.

There was free parking on site, with a bus into Edinburgh right outside - both very convenient. It was handy having a restaurant on site - had a good curry the first night.
A really bright security light shone directly at our window and the curtains didn't do much to block it out. Staff seemed very stressed, especially at breakfast, where plates and other things kept running out. Breakfast food was okay but definitely had better.
Very expensive compared to all our other accommodation, not good value.

I booked for a double bed , I was surprised to see that the bed in the room is two single bed joint or pull together to form a double bed, this makes my sleep uncomfortable,.
