Poor
There was enough parking- hard to think of anything else.
The hotel smelled really bad, the decor was old and tired, the whole place was carpeted which had stains and was threadbare. The rooms were small and expensive for the price. The first room we had was unclean, there was hair on the beds and bathroom floor and toothpaste still left in the sink. The room also smelled awful and made us feel really unclean. When I asked at reception whether I could cancel the second night stay (we didn’t even want to stay one night), the receptionist wasn’t even surprised. She also wasn’t terribly obliging in offering a solution and said we had to contact booking.com as they could do nothing for us at the hotel. I then spent over an hour trying to get a refund and find a new hotel but the hotel did not reply to booking.com’s request as ‘the office was closed’. After speaking to a second person on reception, who was much more obliging we were eventually offered a better room which we accepted for the first night of our stay. The room didn’t smell as bad and was clean but was still small. The window was broken- it wouldn’t even close on the latch which didn’t feel safe for 2 female guests. After this we were then informed via email by booking.com the hotel had refused a refund for the second night. We understand that although the cancellation period had expired (by a mere couple of hours), the fact we were unhappy with the hotel we feel that a cancellation of the second night was not unreasonable.

It’s dated. It really needs updating badly.

The staff and location were great! We arrived late in the evening, they had our room ready and it was a very quick check-in. The room was spacious and clean. Comfortable beds. Coffee, tea and hot water kettle were available in the room. No microwave. The housekeeping staff left a welcome note and a selection of sweets for our family when we arrived (nice touch), and limited room service is available even after the kitchen is closed. The hotel is comfortable, but you can hear if someone is having a conversation in the hallway. No a/c and windows do not open fully, no fan or safe in the room. We arrived late in the evening, the kitchen had just closed, but the bar allowed us to order either a tuna or egg sandwich and potato chips. Bus stop is immediately outside the hotel and offers pick-up every 5-15 minutes into city centre (about a 15 ride). Super easy transportation. Beach front dining and other food options is a short 10 minute walk to the waters edge.
Breakfast was expensive for what was offered (18£/person). Buffet style. Nothing noted as to what it was or allergies, so be mindful. Limited selection of options, but convenient before heading out to explore the city.

Wonderful
Conveniently located near bus to Edinburgh, staff were lovely. Day spa and health club on site and decent restaurant.
We stayed on a very hot day and there was no air-conditioning. On-site parking was available for a fee.

The location for Edinburgh is perfect. 20mins in bus from door to city centre. Its quiet, leafy and suburban. The native population are friendly and say hello. The room was spacious and had the all important bath. The bed was huge and restful. You didn't have to have cleaners in every day. It was light and airy, overlooked a garden. There was a table and chairs. Lots of wardrobe room. Long surface area for bits and pieces. Price compared to city very reasonable we couldn't afford this in city centre.
A mini fridge would have been great as we like to keep a small fresh milk and some fruit.

Pleasant
The room was nice and tidy and location is decent with relatively close proximity to everything we wanted to visit in the city. Good breakfast and friendly staff. We were happy to try pool and gym facilities and enjoy sauna free of charge!
Parking is not for free. Paid for our entire stay during the check-in, but after coming back home we kept receiving parking tickets and had to call to the hotel for each of them and request cancellation.
