really beautiful interior, there was a really nice library which I didn't have time to see properly. The complimentary tea/coffee/hot chocolate machine at reception was great. We had a room on the top floor which had a really great view of Edinburgh. The beds were very comfortable and our room was so big that their was a sofa in there. Breakfast was excellent much better than we expected and the staff that worked in the dinning room (not the reception staff) were really great!
Sofa looked a bit worn out. Reception staff were accommodating as they permitted us to change our dates although they tried to sneakily give us a smaller room for the same price as the family room we booked, also I feel they weren't very friendly, I'm not sure if it was the language barrier (English not being their first language) but there was a struggle to understand one another which wasn't helped by their stern looks, a smile goes a long way! the other issue was the lack of parking at the hotel, on the plus side they do have a 50% off deal with the carpark 10mins walk away. The wifi on the top floor wasn't great, sometimes it was weak.

Good
Lovely staff, breakfast choice was reasonable and plenty of it.
Water pressure for hot tap on sink was non existent.. it trickled so never got hot. This wouldn't have been too bad if you could have accessed bath taps but these were blocked by shower screen. The decor was stained and chipped and the lift was tiny.

wonderful, helpful staff, great breakfast, quaint and charming bar room
bathroom shower stall had no where at all to place soap or a razor. You'll need to step outside the shower stall to grab soap. It would be easily solved with a suction cup tray/holder. The pillows were not comfortable. Bed was good.

Wonderful
Bed was super comfy, staff were friendly and helpful and just a short walk into the city centre! Great view of the castle too and LOVED sitting the library with a book for a couple of hours one afternoon!
The only thing I could possibly comment on is the water pressure/temperature of the shower -couldn’t quite find a happy medium so it was either a bit too cold or scalding but understand that might be the case in an old building.

The location is amazing, the best. Stunning views. Breakfasts were delicious. The staff were all friendly, the building warm , bedroom heat controllable, bed comfortable. Good location. The building is very beautiful and interesting.
The only problem; no shaving socket in room but they lent us an adaptor.

Good
Quiet location. Our room had a fantastic view of Dean village and beyond Don't like a room that's too hot so was able to adjust the radiator which was good Fantastic big room Lovely breakfast and the library would be great for quiet time with a coffee. Unfortunately we arrived too late to sample the bar area Lovely building
The bed was quite hard. It appeared to be 2 mattresses with a cover over them but there was a dip between them. Lovely big bed but just too hard for our liking Because it's an old building there was no double glazing in our room so the sash windows rattled most of the night. It was a stormy night so nobody's fault Breakfast slightly disorganised and no one there to seat you which led to a bit if a muddle with tables and resetting.
