We really loved the professionalism of staff at the desk on arrival, handling lots of rain drenched travellers and steering us in all the right directions. Our room wasn't quite ready so we sat in the lounge area and had a lovely wine, bar staff very friendly.
Our room was great, bed was very comfy and so were the pillows. The bathroom was well spaced and we loved the towel heater! The lovely big bath was an added bonus we took advantage of.
There was lots of room for our suitcases and room to hang things.
We had an evening meal in the restaurant, it was a very tasty roast. We also had breakfast in the dining room the next day, this was also lovely, the buffet was more than enough.

We had no hand and face soap at the shower (the bottle was empty from the first day), the teas and sugar were never refilled, the water only sometimes, there were some problems with the lamps, but they were resolved. The cleanliness of the room is disappointing.

Lovely staff on reception. Breakfast had good range of options. Room was clean, quiet and cosy. Excellent central location.
The corridor was brightly lit and the light filtered under the door at night time.

Staff was helpful very polite. When their was confusion with the readiness of one of the rooms in my group I was offered a complimentary beverage from bar. That was very nice. Issue was cleared up in less than 10 minutes.

The hotel was lovely, the room was great and the location was perfect. This was bought as a Christmas gift for my parents and they loved the hotel. They said the breakfast was great also
This was a Christmas present for my parents along with a show at the Playhouse. They decided to extend their stay for a second night. My mum called up months ahead to book the second night and pay whilst booking (the original night had already been paid for) With the booking being in a different name, this had the potential to cause a little confusion, however my mum was told that a note would be put on the account and it would all be ok for the trip - with them being able to stay in the same room for both nights. Unfortunately, this did cause confusion when checking in. The reception staff told my parents that they would need to come down on the morning of their second day, check out at 11am and then check in for their second night's stay. Whilst they did get to keep the same room, this was very inconvenient.
In addition to this, my parents chose to have breakfast in the hotel both mornings. They paid this for both mornings on arrival (£50) but when "re- checking in" on the second day, they were advised that they would need to pay for breakfast. They again had to explain the situation to the reception staff and show proof that they had paid. Whilst they still loved their time in Edinburgh and were happy with hotel, this too added a bit of inconvenience to their stay
