We had a wonderful stay at the Apex Grassmarket Hotel in Edinburgh. The rooms were spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated, and the beds were exceptionally comfortable—perfect after a day of exploring. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived.
The location couldn’t be better—right in the heart of the Old Town, just a short walk from Edinburgh Castle and surrounded by great restaurants and pubs. We especially enjoyed the hotel’s lounge and restaurant, which offered a relaxing atmosphere and lovely views. The underground parking was a convenient bonus, especially in such a busy area.
Overall, the Apex Grassmarket Hotel delivered on comfort, service, and location. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

This is a shout out to outstanding service by a Duty Manager. When I arrived at Apex Grassmarket I found that Booking.com had mislead me. I had booked an air-conditioned room but there are no rooms with air con at Grassmarket. When I had checked in on 15 August and went to my room I discovered that there was only a little fan and I couldn't open the windows as I was above the meeting area for the Fringe Festival so it was extremely busy and noisy. I immediately went back to reception and spoke to the Duty Manager. I believe his name was Justin or something very similar and he was most likely Brazillian. He was outstanding. I told him I had been travelling in rooms without air con for 2 weeks and was really looking forward to coming to Grassmarket for the air con. He immediately rang the other Apex hotel further down the road and organised for me to transfer to an air-conditioned room there. He even took my baggage up to the hotel for me. This was far beyond his duties and made all the difference to my holiday. I hope that you are able to reward him for his outstanding service.

Great location for ediburgh fringe. Enjoyed the pool and sauna which were well maintained. The bed was comfortable, bathroom clean and staff courteous and professional despite the busy season.

The people working there are absolutely wonderful!
Very affable and professional, nothing is too much trouble for them, from the reception staff to the bar staff, all amazing!
Unfortunately, the property is sub-par for many reasons.
The windows in the room don’t have double glazing and I got abruptly woken up very early in the morning by extremely loud noises of metal cages being dragged and banged around (I believe the delivery of towels and bedsheets was the culprit, but the people banging the cages around were not mindful of people potentially still sleeping at 6:30am).
Sound travels upwards so, despite being on the fourth floor, the noise was incredible.
My room was next door to an ugly utility room, also producing noises at inappropriate times.
The bed in the room was big and comfortable, however there was no pillow selection. All four pillows were the same, very soft, in fact my neck wasn’t happy at all the morning after.
Even some budget hotels have a soft, a medium and a firm pillow. But not here and, for £175 a night, I was expecting at least to have a good night of sleep, but I didn’t.
The room was very basic but clean, however it needs serious updating, starting for the very old smoke alarm that has become brown and the ugly metal bars in the bathroom which have clear signs of corrosion.
Last but not least, the outside patio could do with some ashtrays.
In two full days that I was there not once an ashtray was emptied or cleaned (and there were only two for the whole smoking area)
When I asked for a clean ashtray, neither the bar nor the reception staff said they had them and, despite that, no one bothered to come and collect the filthy ones and wash them up.
The staff were absolutely lovely and accommodating otherwise, but I wouldn’t come back for all the above reasons, not even if it were much cheaper.

The view and location, in my opinion, is the best you can get in Edinburgh. Breakfast was fantastic and so was the staff. The room was a dream, waking up to the castle view from bed.
