Pleasant
The location was unbeatable, the hotel itself appeared to be very nice and put together. We liked the shower a lot. We loved the views as well and that our windows opened.
With that being said, our room was really really hot and so we had to open the windows as the fan that was left in our room wasn’t quite enough to cool the space. With the windows open, the room and doors creaked and the wind howled all night, making it nearly impossible to sleep. The seagulls screaming didn’t help either.

Disappointing
Location is the main plus of this hotel. The room was spacious for being inner city. Really loved the on site parking. Very close to food and tourist sites.
We had room 4011. The floor in the bathroom and near the door was definitely heated on the first day—probably over 90 degrees; still heated on the 2nd day but less heated. This left our room HOT. The entire 4th floor was WAY TOO WARM in the hallways. How on earth in the Edinburgh weather is the hotel 80+ degrees inside? How can anyone enjoy sleeping in a room with that kind of heat? Yes, we could open the door to the outsde, but we wouldn’t leave that open all night because we needed to close off the light and the street noise. Change the mattresses already; those are FAR below standard for the price of the room. And the elevator “down” button didn’t work. We’d have to push ‘up’, go up and then go back down. Seriously? For over 400 pounds a night?

The view and location was amazing. Had the most beautiful view of the castle and was a 5 minute walk to the royal mile
Room service phone wasn’t answer at 10pm even though nighttime room service was advertised.

Very Good
The location is handy for Edinburgh Castle if you're fit. A few minutes up a steep flight of stairs to Royal Mile. Welcoming staff, pleasant public areas. Good sized room with good supply of tea, coffee, biscuits and toiletries if you're a last minute traveller. Fan provided during hot weather.Bedding and bathroom were clean. Good breakfast choice.
The pillows were awful, old and uncomfortable. Requested these be replaced for next guest. The floor in my room wasn't cleaned properly.

Wonderful
Spectacular location. Rooms were decent sized, we had a balcony facing the castle. Could hear the live concerts, but they finished early. Bathroom was nice, facilities nice, beds ok. Laundry is super expensive and they don’t have the “laundry bag” option, to get a bag on laundry washed and folded. T shirts and shorts don’t need much.
A bit noisy out on the Main Street, and super expensive laundry.

Pleasant
Excellent location for castle with excellent view.
Friendly staff attempted to resolve issues, gave complimentary drink voucher for lateness issue
Bartender Tim gave good recommendations from extensive whisky collection.
On site parking (some spaces would be tight for a larger car)
Chilled drinking water on tap on every floor
The room was very uncomfortably hot, despite being cool outside. Only one window opened and only a tiny way. No aircon only 2 fans.
Feather bedding - surely this should not be standard. Had to ask twice to get it changed.
Bed was uncomfortable.
Room was dirty in places...layer of dust on tv stand and dirty sink and random marks on walls.
Whole place was a bit tired and in need of a do up
Room was not ready until 17:20 (check in meant to be 15:00)
The pool is tiny, did not bother trying it.
Breakfast very expensive.
No lift to carpark and lobby on different level to lift with no access ramp
Not an issue for us but be aware there was noise until late from the castle statdium and bars.

Fair
The location was great, very central. Lovely view of the castle and nice to have a balcony. Didn't hear any noise from adjacent rooms.
The temperature of the room was too oppressive and hot to enjoy it.
There was no air con and the fan provided was a simple desk fan that pushed the hot air around. You'd think for almost £500 a night they could provide a cool air fan like a Dyson for over the summer months. Although the door opened onto the balcony it didn't help the room temperature when it was so warm outside. It couldn't be left open either while you were out for security reasons, as it's one long balcony for all rooms, which meant the room heated up even more and was stuffy by the time you came back as there was no other ventilation. Also, leaving the balcony door open overnight for air meant listening to all the noise from the bars and traffic. There was no way to turn the heating off or down in the bathroom either so the whole place was stifling.
The water pressure in the shower was very poor.
