Disappointing
It’s nice and clean with a great location and beautiful view.
The room was insanely hot. I had the window open to try to cool it down because it was nice and cool outside by evening time. No such luck. Called the front desk twice to get a portable fan. They said they didn’t have any more. So I had to lay there and sweat. The noise from outside was significant. Loud people dragging luggage, laughing, shouting, loud cars, trucks and motorcycles, car alarm going off. It was probably the most miserable night in a hotel that I’ve had.

Good
We loved that it was right downtown close to shopping and restaurants. We also loved that we had a castle view.
We had a few things that were not ideal that affected the overall rating of our stay. Our room was very hot and because the only window we had opened a small amount we had to leave the blackout blinds open to get airflow it was consequently sooooo loud when we were trying to sleep all night and hard to sleep with all the light from the open curtains. Also we had 4 people sleeping in our room and there was only 1 towel hook so we had to get creative with where to hang them for the time we were there. Our sinks also needed to be tightened so they wouldn’t turn off. And lastly our shower doors seal was old so water poured out of the shower the first time we used it.

The front desk service was very helpful and they were very friendly. The food was very tasty. Everyone made us feel welcome. Also loved the fluffy and extra large towels.
The room temperature was a little too warm

The location is fantastic! It looks out to Edinburgh Castle and is a short walk to Victoria Street. Very centrally located to everything.
It was very warm in the hotel hallways and the room. We were sweating and were told there was nothing to be done. They did provide a fan that just blew around the hot air. Very uncomfortable. Also fridge in room barely worked and we were told that they didn’t work well. Also be careful climbing into the tub/shower it’s very tall.

Very Good
Location excellent. Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious with lots of good options for one in our party with food allergies.
Parking cramped and expensive. Busy hotel with only two elevators so we used stairs. Marathon weekend made it a little busy.

We loved the location in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town! We were able to walk everywhere easily. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Wonderful hospitality by the gentleman who welcomed us upon check-in.

The bed wasn’t quite as comfortable as o would expect a $500/night hotel to be.

Location was great
Could not adjust the temperature in the room. It was determined by the hotel.
Young adults going home from the bars yelling all three (3) night around 2:00 am which woke us up.

The room had a spectacular view of Edinburgh Castle, and the hotel was centrally located for touring around town, and close to lots of restaurants, cafes, and pubs.

The location is fantastic for all the main tourist attractions but also some good shops and restaurants. Room was huge and plenty of room for us and our infant and extra luggage. Hard to beat the view from the balcony!
No elevator to entrance. We had to use ramp to bring in luggage and stroller.

Brilliant position right in the centre of Edinburgh Old town. Easy walk to so many things. Beautiful clean unit with car parking space, (which you did have to pay for). Welcome drink was a really 'welcome' and much appreciated gesture. There was always a lovely cool drink in the lobby which was also a really nice touch. Staff were helpful and we loved chatting to Ben the barman!
Look, it was expensive, however, you are right in the heart of Old Town so it is to be expected. Free parking would have been great, seeing as though the cost is quite high.

Wonderful
Location in the hub of Grassmarket, walking distance to main old town and castle. Great food and breakfast which stayed open until 10:30. Modern style with lots of facilities. Parking available for a fee.
High Price. Many steps but staff provided help when asked. Toilet flushing weird and tub/shower awkward - needed more grab bars for safety. Spray-head feed pipe leaked. Doors on closets were in poor condition (missing screws). When I offered this information I was dismissed stating that cleaning staff will report any issue. Check-in process lengthy in a noisy reception lobby.

Location is excellent. Quiet in a busy area. The pool was great (though it felt like going to a dungeon to get there). Adrien/Andrei? helped me with my luggage. I liked that they had a place to refill water.
Room could have been a little bigger. But I felt that way about many of the hotels I stayed in this trip.

Wonderful
The location for the Apex Grassmarket was great! With it being just off the Royal Mile, we were greeted with a view of the Edinburgh Castle every morning when we went out. I did not regret getting the cheaper room on the courtyard/alley side at all. The staff was wonderful and our room was ready even before the official check-in time. It was also one of the few places that had rooms with two beds available for a reasonable price during our stay. Just be aware there are two Apex hotels on the same street very close together. We didn't visit Apex City of Edinburgh, so can't comment which is better.
We could not take a shower without water getting all over the floor. It is a common setup in Scotland to only have a partition halfway across the shower, but our partition was not even sealed well for the part it covered. We reported this to the staff on check out and hope it was addressed.

Brilliantly located for my disabled friend. Only a short walk from the Royal mile and most of the great places to visit.
It was in my view slightly over priced. To then have to add a parking charge and breakfast.
