The interior of the hotel is great. Great decor and clean. The room was a brilliant size and we slept really well. Staff and the other guests were pleasant, and there was a nice atmosphere.
The exterior is quite weather-worn, and I was bit concerned at first but soon reassured when going in as the interior is so much nicer.
I didn’t trust the car park as the signs advised “dynamic pricing” so we chose to park a little further back at the PayByPhone car park, and that worked out fine, and cheaper going by other reviews.
The location is ideal if going by train. However, the walk into Chester is grotty and via an underground tunnel. It is only a short walk though.
I received lots of messages prior to arrival asking to offer a price for an upgrade and I’d also received a what’s app claiming that my card was not authorised. I found this very disconcerting. I contacted customer services to try and find out if these messages were linked and if legitimate, but received no response.

The rooms were clean and staff were friendly. The location is within easy walking distance of the shops and museums and places of interest.
We booked half board but the dinner menu was fairly limited and the food was rather poor in standard eg. Pitta and humous was clearly just shop bought and vegetables roughly peeled. The breakfast was disappointing too - all self-service with one spoon for dishing each item shared with all residents. Tea and coffee from machine. Our double bed was tiny and not very comfortable. The car park was pricey and some shady people hanging about after dark.

Good location. The bed was comfortable. Good sized bathroom. Had a large TV.
The bed seemed to be on the small side of a double. Our room was right next to the lift which was irritating as that's what we heard all night/early morning. The drinks in the bar were more on the expensive side too.

Good base for exploring as it is across the road from the train station.

We had a problem with the room safe. This was resolved quickly by staff.
Breakfast wasn't the best as the hot food was barely warm and the hash browns a little dry/rubbery.
The position of the TV in the room made it difficult to watch.
There was no mirror at the desk for hair/make-up. There was a full length mirror in the room, however, there was no socket near this for a hairdryer/styling tools.
Lights did not work (bedside and shaving mirror in bathroom)
Bar staff could have smiled and been friendly/welcoming

The check in service was quick and easy, the staff were really nice. We had a meal at the hotel which was lovely, lots of choice and good size portions. Great value for money. The rooms were lovely and very spacious, very comfy. Would definitely stay there again.
We got told the room service was on a text or call service from Whatsapp but that didn't work so we wasn't able to get room service.
