Our room had a leaky window which let a howling cold wind into the room, we resorted to wedging towels into the gap. There were damp patches by both windows and the sink in the bathroom was cracked.in short the hotel needs a serious upgrade

The hotel has an old world charm to it and the staff are lovely. The beds are comfortable and it's great to have decent sized bath ! I love the bar and reception seating areas which are large and have a warm atmosphere. As for location, it's perfectly situated on the sea front and in walking distance of the most of what you'll want to see in Brighton. I've stayed twice in the past 3 weeks - once to see a gig at the Brighton Centre and again to attend a birthday get together for a friend visiting from overseas. The finish of the hotel is old fashioned (lift installed in the 1920's it says on the door) and the place may not be to your taste if you are looking for a clinical boutique feel. This hotel came in cheaper than my usual modern hotel so I gave it a try and its fair to say I've now switched allegiance : ) Oh and the 11am checkout time is perfect and better than many other places.
The odd lick of paint or new carpet needed here and there or a small wallpaper edge re-stuck. Did it spoil the experience. Not for me.

Good old-fashioned hotel needs a bit of a makeover but that's part of its charm. We have been before.

Only stayed for one night, chose not to have breakfast.
Hotel warm and staff friendly.
Minor issues. Curtain rail and curtain hooks need to be replaced as we couldn't pull them properly
People standing round the entrance smoking not a good start to have to walk through a cloud of smoke.
Hotel exterior shabby not as seen in photograph. However appreciate it is an old hotel.
A little worried about the lift until i read the notice.

Great location and clean room. The hotel is looking a little tired and in need of some TLC in places but the dinner was excellent and breakfast buffet very good. Staff friendly and accommodating.
Looking a little tired decor-wise in places but it is a large property to upkeep, especially on the seafront.

I visited the Old Ship many years ago when it was a beautiful quirky hotel
Unfortunately it has gone very downhill and is not a 4 star hotel!!
Only one bath towel in twin room and when I called reception I was actually asked to come down to collect a towel!
Cleaning in the room substandard as an intimate item of female clothing was found behind a chair
Informed reception so hope this will be addressed
