Good
Location, style.
Needs a lot of work - paint, new carpets. Gaffa tape is not an option.

Close to pier and the lanes
Property needs a make over. Cracked ceilings and no air conditioning. Breakfast was cold. Definitely not 4 star.

Poor
It is across from the beach and convenient to local shops and restaurants
They are renovating and more of the hotel was out of use. I understand it had to be done but at no point were we informed this was the case. I have been coming to the Old Ship once a year for the last 15 years and it was a bit of a downer

Do not stay here nothing was good about the property when we arrived there was scaffolding up something we were not told from booking.com
They are due to close end of august. The reception staff are being made redundant. We booked a sea view room and we couldn’t see due to the scaffolding. The room was dirty carpets awful bathroom unclean and all the builders who were working outside were the only people in the hotel staying
We were so unhappy we left a day early so stayed for one night. The lady gave us our money back but it was almost like she expected it and agreed with us about what was going on at the hotel. This hotel needs to be closed down while they are refurbishing not wait till the end of August.

Poor
The location
I paid for an upgrade but was put in a room next to a generator which was so loud, neither myself or my partner could sleep.
The room was hot, there were stains on the carpet, plaster coming off the ceiling and the shower changed from hot to freezing without notice.
When we told the staff on the desk at check out he offered no apology or sympathy, just replied that there are no generators - well, generator or not, there is a loud noise consistent with a generator and it is disruptive and ruined the stay.

I was upgraded to a larger, sea facing room, which was nice. The hotel has lots of seating areas and is in a convenient area for the town too.
The reception staff were friendly and efficient.
Although I appreciate that I knew the price when booking, I do think its a little expensive when it doesn't even include breakfast.

Location was good. The breakfast was awful
No parking. The breakfast was disgusting, really cold, hard eggs and raw bacon. Remote for tv didn’t work. Very outdated and dirty

Pleasant
I love the location of this hotel and understand it’s going through renovation. Breakfast was lovely and the beds were comfy.
Really disappointed that the car park was closed and no one told us as this was the main reason for booking. I was told to use the Lanes Car Park and they didn’t have the discount so it was ridiculously expensive. I could have stayed at the Leonardo and got a cheaper rate. Anyway it’s desperately needing a tidy up, carpets are thread bare, the chair in the room was full of stains and collapsing. The creaking of floor boards woke us up at night.

Disappointing
The location is as good as it gets! Stone throw from i360 and pier.
The room was terribly dated with cracks on the ceiling and skirting boards.

A bit of disruption due to ongoing works but perfectly understandable. Looking forward to seeing results
