The reception area is very elegant and gives a great first impression. There is also a paid car park on the street behind the hotel, which costs £10 for 24 hours if you ask reception for the discount code.
The price was very high for what we expected. Our room was on the third floor, but the view was of a very unattractive inner courtyard. We were also greeted by a huge spider in the room. The bathroom definitely needs a complete renovation: it felt very dated, with a lot of mould and old, worn-out taps and fittings. Overall, the room did not meet our expectations for a hotel at this price point.

Pillows were very high causing a sore neck and waking mid night. Resulted in throwing the pillows in the ground and using a blanket as a pillow.

Location was good. Breakfast was the usual, fine
I gave the staff a good, not great, review. Female receptionist on arrival seemed to be eating behind the desk. No issue at all with this, I’ve done the same. However my husband made a jovial comment which was completely dismissed and answered with a gruff ‘ what’s your name’? No hello or welcome. No mention that the lift requires a key tap to work. After a few false starts, another guest told us. We did meet a very pleasant young man at reception during our stay and at checkout.

The bedroom and bathroom were very disappointing for the price. No mini-fridge in the room. The bathroom was in need of painting and repair. I would rate this a 3 star hotel at best.

Staff were lovely, very pleasant and helpful. Beds were comfortable and rooms were a good temperature. Water pressure in the shower was very good. Well located, a 10 minute walk into the centre of the city. Parking in the paid car park behind the hotel was easy.
Carpets were quite stained in the room. The bathroom wasn't very well cleaned and the paint on the bathroom door was lifting/chipping off a bit. It was fine but for the Clayton, we expected a higher standard. The room was quite dated and in need of refreshing, especially the bathroom. The hot water took a long time to reach the bathroom taps, had to run it for at least a couple of minutes before it got warm which is quite wasteful if this is done across all rooms at the hotel. There was a towel hook on the back of the bathroom door for bath towels but nowhere to hang hand towels to dry near the sink.

Beds were very comfortable, Room was spacious. We didn't meet our maid, but the other maid on the floor was incredible!!! Location was great!
The room was too warm. Changing the thermostat didn't help. Breakfast was good, but after the 3rd day, it got a little boring, plus very little selection. We didn't realize until after breakfast on our last day, that we could have ordered other items that wasn't in the buffet, like poached, or over easy eggs.
