The female receptionist was nice. The bed was okay. It's cheap.
What an experience... Quite possibly one of the worst experiences I could have as a first time patron of hostels and first time visitor of Kyiv. As Kurtz said in 'Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now' The horror... The horror...
First, the entrance was a bit difficult to find. The door is in the back and was surrounded by seedy characters. Then, I was strangely, yet warmly accosted by a drunk resident who proceeded to have a conversation with me, although I do not understand Ukrainian well as I was trying to get to reception. The male receptionist was a bit cold and seemed a bit annoyed (the female receptionist was more warm), he did not have my booking I reserved in advance (surprise, surprise!) so I had to wait for a room to open and pay extra.
The room was adequate. Quite small, private, the linen was clean, but the walls are paper thin, and a small single bed, but it worked for a place to crash for the night.
Now comes the nightmare part of my stay à la Resident Evil. The bathrooms. It was minging. Water everywhere on the floor, dirty toilets, low water pressure so all used toilet paper where in a bit next to the toilet, and the shower room was about 5 meters in length with all separating it 2 moldy curtains. The hot water runs out fast so I used it for 3 minutes yet, was yelled at by the manager to turn it off in the middle of my shower. Then, as I was drying, another guest came into the cramped space as I was drying off with no distance between us. I just took my stuff and went to my room quickly. Quite an uncomfortable experience which soured my stay and was the icing on the cake.
Overall, a hostel most likely better for locals, but if I were a foreign traveler, I'd find a better place to stay. The standards are not quite there for western travelers, not to sound condescending. But if you don't mind a little rough around the edges or this is the standard for Eastern Europe, then go for it.

Possibly the best value for money in Kyiv.
Individual rooms with large shared kitchen and bathrooms. On 4 floors, each floor with an individual code and facilities.
The room was warm throughout all power cuts, the bed exceptionally comfortable with modern bedding.
Toilets and showers are in a gym changing room style, male and female are separate. Everything is spotless!!! So clean!
Bedroom colour scheme was quite a trip but I liked that all the - basic - furniture was really useful and not just thrown in at random. A little desk, drawers, shelves, hooks etc
Cleaning ladies work all day every day.
The reception is open long hours and everyone is very friendly and helpful, although not everyone speaks English. .
Curfew is at midnight.
The kitchen was large with two fridges, a kettle, hob and microwave. A little bare but decent enough.
You can go on the balcony there to smoke.
The showers had plentiful hot water at all times, I never had to queue.
Bear in mind that the hostel is used by military and young people and sometimes there is unavoidable noise. But honestly not too bad and there is nothing more than loud talking going on.
It's slightly out of the way in Podil, facing the dual carriageway but the metro station is 5 minutes walk away.
Station Tarasa Shevchenka on the blue line. Directions if the gps is scrambled which mine was after a russian attack: take left wing exit, exit the metro, take the first left, follow the right bend in the main street, next left to the end of the street onto the dual carriageway, turn right, walk till you see the building with the big mural, entrance is round the back.
There are lots of ways to get there but this is the simplest.
Around the station there is a supermarket, banks, post office, coffee shops, food shops and right behind the hotel there is a little convenience shop with cigarettes and sweets etc. Opens very late.
Just little details and nothing major.
Like a toaster in the kitchen would be nice or a hook to keep the balcony door closed from the outside. Trifles.
I will definitely go back when I'm back in Kyiv.

The receptionist in the morning was friendly. Good value for money.
Very exposed to the north, especially the top floors. The evening receptionist was very rude. He charged me double, but I got my money back next day. absolutely nothing to see or eat in the area. Except from a mikromikro brewery closeby.

The price was good considering the size of the room and your privacy.
The showers kept turning from hot to cold and the toilet doors don’t shut when not in use. The time to check out is too early and the check out time is too late. If you want to change rooms you have your wait and then go to different floors. It can be a hassle.
