Delicious food and lovely rooftop, historical building with lots of character.
The beds are not very comfortable, and power points are tricky to reach. Hotel would benefit from a tiny bit of modern touch.

Very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Breakfast on the rooftop was delicious and lovely. Staff let us keep our luggage there when we took off to spend a few days at the beach. Would stay here again.

The historical house, which is included in the city sightseeing route, is really interesting. The staff is friendly. Great breakfast on the roof. It is safe, there is a watchman on duty in the evenings and at night, who lets guests in and out. It is possible to buy Tanzanian coffee, and it is a good opportunity to do so in the city, because in the remote villages there are no beans or ground coffee, except instant coffee. It is very good that there is an opportunity to refill drinking water. There was warm water and electricity all the time.
Of course, the price could be lower, but it's not, so I don't remember anything bad.

I enjoyed everything from the architecture of the old building to the roasting coffee show... delightful time
The staff should prevent you from getting contacted by all the desperate scammers in search of mzungu

The staff were so friendly and helpful. Their joy was infectious and created a wonderful vibe throughout the place. The rooms themselves were beautifully decorated with small thoughtful touches. The room had A/C and was comfortable at night. It can be a bit loud as people pass in the alleys, but thatll occur no matter where you stay because everything is so close together.
The breakfast was delicious and had a good variety of options. It was nice guests could use the rooftop even after cafe hours as its cooler up there. I particularly enjoyed the ability to fill up water easily before heading out too.
They also booked my taxi and tour - both were great!
Not that I didnt like it - just a note the espresso room has a separate private bathroom a few steps down the hall. If this is a huge problem for you it may be worth inquiring further into your room.

We booked a night at the Coffee House as my wife, is the great grandchild of Sir Tharia Topan who owned a number of properties on this road which, prior to the Revolution of 1964 was named after him. It certainly is a blast from the past with little modern fixtures and fittings from the mid 1850's onward and it is only suitable for those who are fit, to deal with uneven stone stairs to the upper bedrooms as there are no elevators available. The streets are typical Stone Town in which a taxi can rarely get within 3 minutes from the property due to very narrow lanes, never the less it was an experience to spend a night in the property and to visit the nearby Dispensary which Sir Tharia was instrumental in getting construction underway over a hundred and fifty years ago and which has now been refurbished by the Aga Khans organization.
The stone stairways with few hand rails was an experience in this house and the heat of Stone Town in daytime in March is often in excess of 35C so tuk tuk rides are essential to get about in the heat of the day

Attentive staff, Richard was an amazing host. The ambience was great and the aroma of coffeee was magical. Thank you for having me.
Steep stairs going into the bathroom and a slippery/smooth concrete floor is definitely a hazard, especially for older people. Could you please provide rubber-soled slippers/flip flops for in-door use? I stayed in cappuccino.

All of the staff were friendly, especially the woman who served breakfast. The coffee and juice were delicious and I enjoyed the homemade granola and yogurt. The weather was exceptionally hot and humid when I was there, but the ceiling fans and A/C worked well. The rooftop was very nice and the temperature seemed cooler there because you could feel a good breeze.
It was challenging when we first arrived because it was raining hard and the streets were flooded. You have to walk a few blocks to get to the hotel and transporting our luggage in the flooded and dirty streets was not ideal.

Loved our stay here and wished we stayed longer!
Ali and the team were so lovely and accommodating with everything! Needless to say this is the best coffee we had in Zanzibar!
My partner is also still raving about the breakfast!!
Best place to stay if you have any dietary requirements as well. There are so many vegan options on the cafe menu and soya milk for coffee as well.
Thank you so much for everything team
