Supposed to be a 4-5 star hotel It was more like 2 star Very expensive to for what it is Totally not worth it

Spice tree was honestly a disappointment. The hotel needs to urgently do a renovation to take care of the humidity in the facilities. The entire hotel smells humidity. The humidity was so much that at night the linens were damp. We had taken a twin room and the beds were so old and used that they had holes in the middle making sleeping like mission impossible. I reported this to reception who despite all the good attitude were not able to assist. Linens somehow looked like they were not changed. The only reason I did not change hotels was just because it was a really short stay, but honestly this is not a 4* star standard more like a 3 star standard. While the team did offer the option of changing rooms that was a second change and I was unwilling to move again, hence I decided to stay. The curtains were actually clearly dirty. My last comment is more like a personal taste - the hotel decoration makes it heavy with the dark colours. Because some places lack natural light - specially common areas - the dark decoration makes the hotel somehow have a sensation of abandoned, which combined with humidity and the smell makes it worst. A lighter colour decoration can help the hotel to look softer and give its due credit as this is not a bad/awful place.

The rooms are relative dark and have small windows. Probably coz it's an old building in a UNESCO heritage site. Unfortunately this makes the room have a damp smell that just doesn't get out. Our window opened to an incomplete building a cross the street (and the streets are narrow) which looked like housed some random people that probably slept there coz I saw clothes and mattresses hanging about. Turning on the AC makes things worse. My wife and I start immediately sneezing with the AC on and the air starts to smell "dusty". The AC filters probably haven't been cleaned in ages so it's full of dust. We couldn't stand being in the room for more than 10 mins and had to checkout after 2 nights even though we had booked and paid for 4 nights. You are definitely paying for location and nothing else. The rooms, etc are not close to worth the price. Our sheets had stains and we had to ask for them to be changed. Bathroom was small and not well lit. The breakfast menu is VERY limited. The options are bread (a variety of it), eggs, baked beans, beef sauages and fruits. The menu didn't change for the two nights we were there. The food in the restaurant is good, but definitely over priced. You can overlook this if you are okay dining at another establishment. There's lots of other places very close by where you can eat. They have a garden by the [separate] building that has the swimming pool but the garden somehow felt like the ground was damp. It was raining while we were there but all other surroundings seemed to dry faster than the garden. Perhaps the drainage should be improved? No idea why it seemed like that.

the extra amount charged for my spouse who couldn't use any of the amenities except the bed was very steep. overall, the price is expensive
