Exceptional
Sparkling infinity pool overlooking the ocean. Very clean rooms. Very kind staff. Quiet beach with few vendors. Very good restaurant reasonably priced. Perfect Zanzibar beach vacation. We used Ramadan for our transfer. He is a great driver, very safe and reliable and friendly.

it is a very nice accommodation in Zanzibar style. The breakfast was delicious
It is located 2 km from Paje and unfortunately the beach is unkempt compared to the one in Nungwi or Paje. It is dirty with algae and the water has a dirty appearance. We used to walk 2 km every day to reach a clean beach.

Poor
I was frustrated with the lack of functioning AC, despite the website saying there would be AC. My room also lost power during the night (meaning no fan) with nobody responding to a phone call. I would also note they only provide one very small cup of coffee with breakfast in the morning. There were also wild dogs that were allowed on the property and several of them jumped up on me without staff trying to chase them away. Given the prevalence of rabies, this was very concerning to me. I would also let visitors know that you are trapped at this location (and other nearby locations) during high tide - which means you either need to get back or be prepared to wait out the high tide at beach-side restaurants/bars.

Wonderful
Ideal for a quiet stay away from the very busy Paje while being at 5 minutes drive from all facilities. The location right on the beach with privacy is incredible! Staff, Food and Cocktail are great. The limited number of bungalows ensure maximum service and calm. The setting might be what heaven looks like if there is one

Not much unfortunately
Makuti is definetely not a safe place for woman travelling alone !!!
During the night, as I was staying in the first bungalow overlooking (overlooking is a big word since there are trees everywhere so no view at all!) the sea, a man tried to break in by the window (door fully locked - window with no bars and unlockable). I shouted, he left - no one came. Of course : the security guy was nowhzre to befound. In the morning as I explained my wish to check out early and change hotel : I was met with the bill covering all the nights (no thank you) and a team that wouldnt understand the gravity of it all.
The food is mediocre to say the least and staff not very polite (in the dinner service) and not very understanding.
Last but not least : a very expensive price for a room, with lots of insects (for a 4 stars I would expect a bit more !) and dirty towels/linens and loungers.
All in all : bypass this hotel

Very Good
Appreciated the location as its away from the busy centre of Paje. Lovely grounds & rooms. Quite charming..every seat is purposefully in place to give you a view. Great pool, but couldnt use it with rain season. Breakfast is great, even if youre paying extra for the espresso.. The best we had in Zanzibar. Staff very accommodating and available. Worth the stay!
Local parties around the hotel run until 4am!! Dinner options is limited..half the menu wasnt available when we ordered it. This though could be because of the season.. Wifi only works around reception area.
