I really enjoyed staying at Jian Shan, the hotel has a really nice vintage feel. My room was really clean, aircon worked well & my bed was comfortable. Interesting location & walking distance to Taipei Main station or the green line.
If you have mobility issues or are travelling with large luggage you may struggle with the steep staircase.

Very Good
It was a beautiful historic boutique hotel. My room was a decent size. Everything was clean and the staff was excellent.
The shower has no divider between the toilet so, everytime I took a shower the toilet got wet. It wasn't a big deal but a little odd. The bathroom usually dried in a few hours.

Very Good
The location was nice - walkable to where I wanted to go while not being at the busiest area. I appreciated that a hair dryer and daily water were provided. The shower water stayed hot for a decent amount of time and the a/c worked well.
The stairs were rough, especially carrying luggage. I tried to plan out my day so that I wasn't going up and down those stairs multiple times.

Location is excellent. Even though it is very central it’s also very quiet. Staff are great.

Location, friendly staff, value
It lacks elevator and the non-24/7 desk. But with good planning, the inconvenience could be overcome easily especially when the staffs were so accommodating.

Excellent property. Amenities were comfortable and the decor is a classic vintage theme. Staff was very accommodating to my early morning checkin. Located in a great area, steps from the night market.

My friend & I booked last minute and they accommodated us with clear instructions on how to get there, where to park, and the location of the house is in the middle of one of the most beautiful village on the Alsace wine route, it's perfect! They were also very dog-friendly which was a nice bonus. Thank you for everything!

This is the hotel I prefer to stay at in Taipei -- this is the third time I've stayed here.
The best parts about Jian Shan Hotel is its location, the general aesthetic, and how comfortable the rooms are. It's also cool that there is consistency in the staff.

Good
The vintage charm of the hotel is quite nice, and the bathroom while minimal was able to dry quickly, which is very nice in the summer heat. Despite taking a long shower the bathroom floor was dry within a few hours.
The rooms in this hotel are small. They have everything I needed, but you should be prepared for that if you stay here. There's no elevator, so if you're on the 4th floor like I was, I hope you didn't pack much. The shower in the bathroom isn't separated. It's just a hose on the wall. This is common in Taiwan, but it's something to be aware of if you are considering this hotel.

I liked the retro style of the property and the fact that it was in an interesting , historic area of Taipei. It was clean and the bed was comfortable
I read reviews on line and read about the friendliness of the staff. My experience was quite the opposite. I arrived at the property around 4: 30 pm and was met at the door by a man who immediately barked at me ‘ passport.’ I actually told the man to wait until I had entered the hotel as I had luggage with me. Unfortunately this set the tone for my thankfully one night stay. When he wasn’t engrossed with his laptop he would bark some comment at me. Now I can’t explain this. Whether he was having a bad time or whether he was annoyed I was staying one night I don’t know. But I felt very uncomfortable staying there and could not wait to leave. The room itself was fine but this particular room faced the street and there were garbage trucks making a noise all night

Wonderful
Nestled in a traditional district, this accommodation occupies a characterfully aged building that immediately transports you to another era. As my cousin aptly observed, it bears a striking resemblance to her mother's apartment from decades past – there's something wonderfully nostalgic about the whole experience.
Let's be honest about the room size – it's compact. The space has been cleverly designed with an elevated bed to maximize every square inch, which works brilliantly for solo travelers.
The interior finishing is exceptional, with every element thoughtfully chosen to evoke the charm of bygone days. Despite the building's age, the space is impeccably clean – a testament to the owner's dedication to maintaining high standards. The design captures that "good old days" atmosphere perfectly, creating an authentic vintage experience that feels genuine rather than contrived.
Practical Considerations: there's no elevator, so you'll need to navigate narrow stairs with your luggage. The owner was clearly attentive to my booking detailsl, which suggests they're conscious of potential accessibility issues. If you're traveling with large suitcases or have mobility concerns, this might not be the ideal choice.
The front desk is not 24 hours.

The room was perfectly sized for a solo traveler. It was clean and cozy. Toiletries were provided along with some tea bags and an electric kettle. I was on the 3rd floor but water pressure was good and the water temperature was consistent, unlike in the hotel I stayed at prior. The hotel is situated in a relatively quiet part of town but is walking distance from the Dadaocheng dock which was one of my favorite parts of the city. Dihua Old Street is also a stone's throw away. There's a bus station just around the corner.
I didn't mind carrying my luggage up the stairs to the 3rd floor but it might be a problem for some people. I don't think there was an elevator. The door does not have a deadbolt or chain lock from inside. As a lone female traveler I would've felt safer with one.

Really cool place in a cool location. Everything we needed for our stay. Recommend.
The only downside was that the room was teeny tiny. We did expect it so it wasn't a big deal at all, but if we were spending more time in the room, it wouldn't have been ideal.

The decor is super cute - they've really put thought into making the space feel special and stylish. Do note that it's up one flight of stairs, so keep that in mind if you have heavy luggage (though totally manageable).
Check-in was a breeze with such friendly staff who went the extra mile by recommending some fantastic dinner spots nearby. Really appreciated that local insight!
The room itself was very cute and cozy with a nice window that opens to let in fresh air and natural light. While the bathroom is definitely on the compact side, the shower pressure was excellent - always a pleasant surprise in budget accommodations!
The bed is on the firmer side, which might not be everyone's preference, but I still found it comfortable and had no trouble sleeping well each night.
Location-wise, it's perfect - centrally located and makes exploring the area super convenient.
If you're looking for a budget-friendly option with charm and character, I'd highly recommend this place. It proves you don't have to spend a fortune to have a delightful stay with all the essentials done right. Perfect for travellers who prioritise location and charm over luxury amenities!
