The staff was very accommodating. Our room was beautiful and had all of the details and amenities we needed to have a relaxing stay. The meals were exceptional, and getting a shuttle or taxi where we needed to go was easy.

We stayed in one of the most expensive rooms, a premium quadruple room. The room itself was OK, with enough space for a hot spring bath and cold spring bath, though for a 5-star resort you would expect higher quality finishes within the room. It was nice that our request for a higher floor was fulfilled.
This was a birthday treat for my mum. Having stayed at Lalu at Sun Moon Lake and Silks Taroko, we felt GVRB didn't meet the high standards expected, either through their overall staff, and customer service, or attention to detail in the design of the place. An example is a small thing like the welcome drink. We were given ordinary tea in paper cups, whereas elite hotels provide a very special drink perhaps with a name and explanatory card and always in a glass, porcelain/ceramic cup with exquisite presentation. As with other guest comments, the breakfast, which was non buffet, was disappointing. High-end hotels should understand how crucial breakfasts are to their guests. And that freshness and choice are basic expectations.

Comfortable room, beautiful in room onsen including a cold pool. The staff were very attentive and friendly.
Food wise we did the set menu (one vegetarian, one not) at the Chinese Restaurant, it was good but I'd probably pick and choose off the a la carte next time. Breakfast was good. There was no option for chinese vs western for the vegetarian menu so it had some quirks but the non vegetarian options my partner had looked great.
The privacy curtains in the onsen room had some mold on them which is hard to avoid with the humidity and it being an older facility (we were looking right over the museum and public bathing area)

The rooms are great, and the in-room onsen worked flawlessly as well. The shuttle service to Beitou is very convenient as well.
The breakfast could be improved. You can choose between two fixed breakfast sets, western & taiwanese. To begin with, both are way too big. I think they want to give you choice, but in the end its just wasteful as you can't finish it all. The taiwanese one had an interesting variety and was good. The western one.. well.. it feels like a "what taiwanese think is western", but hasn't much else to do with western breakfast.
I think we would've preferred a buffet-style breakfast.

Cosy and spacious room with in-room hotspring pool.
Cleaning staff are attentive to clean and tidy room service.
Better than many big brand hotels out there.
Hotel is 10mins drive from the nearest train stations and they have shuttle bus services so that is quite accessible

Building and room are modern with high grade materials and finishes
There are two restaurants at the hotel - Chinese and French. Chinese cousine choice was limited and quality was not high, French restaurant is OK but it is designed more for presentation and experience rather than food - dish size is tiny and selection is limited.
But main problem is with breakfast - there is no standard buffet breakfast, only limited set menu you have to order in advance - more like a “boxed lunch”. I would expect at least standard buffet.

I feel our hotel price is on the steep side. The "luxurious" feeling I normally get from other onsen hotel is missing here.

Superb! If you feel like Onsen, come here. You don't needa visit Japan. Staff friendly. Facilities clean. No weird guest. Taiwanese dinner wonderful.
