Exceptional
The host, Mr Zheng, is extremely friendly and helpful, providing lots of advice for instance on visiting Sun Moon Lake which is a 25 minute bus ride away. The buildings themselves are modern, comfortable and clean, and set in a lovely garden. The location gives glorious views of the mountains and sunset. As well as a sumptuous breakfast, excellent dinners are available for a very reasonable price. This is welcome as the place is a 20 minute walk from the town centre down a hill.
If you don't have a car, the bus service into Shuili is infrequent. However, this didn't worry us as you can walk down a quiet lane (Jinlong Road) and taxis back up the hill aren't expensive. Mr Zheng also kindly gave us a lift a couple of times. If you're arriving by rail in Shuili beware - the train stops at Jiji at the moment (November 2023) and you take a bus for the last few kilometres. Work is underway to repair the scenic Jiji Line so services to Shuili and Checheng (worth visiting) should resume soon.
