I would rate this a score of 5 in a world of only 8's. My expectations were limited to begin with, as the town is pretty run down and poor overall. But, for 20-some dollars, I had a place that felt safe, and was decent, perfect for my needs of a quick night before my flight.
Cleaner. Updated. Freshened up. Warmer reception. A towel with my sheets. Availability to pay with card on site and not have to walk down to the closest restaurant.

it was a private room and it smelled like old boots during my stay, was even hard to sleep first night because of that smell. it was dirty, it didn’t have anything, I was expecting at least a little bar of soap to wash hands. Breakfast was very poor.

The common area always had other travelers to meet and the staff was nice. The breakfast was simple but satisfying. The location is just a short walk to the main tourist sites of the city.
The beds were quite uncomfortable. Mosquito nets full of holes. Understandably the building and windows are old but need to have appendages added to be able to prop them open because there is no airflow and pretty stuffy and smelly rooms.

Single room had good A/C. Staff very friendly.
The main building with bedrooms is very old, somewhat charming though. The showers are very old and the floors in my room really bend when you walk on them. The historic staircase steps are an adventure for adult-sized feet. Rustic lol.

Location is slightly out of the center so it’s quiet and with the creek beside it, it’s quite peaceful with lots of birds. Especially if you get the room with the balcony, you can sit there and enjoy.
The workers are very nice and helpful.
Could get more fans or something for the living area. Usually used by people blasting air to themselves to avoid mosquitoes. Seems like there’s a lot of mosquitos, maybe spray the property?

Reception staff were excellent, with one particular lady being very helpful and polite.

Large lounge.
This is the only hostel in the country I believe, so travellers don't have much choice, but it could be improved SO much with so little effort and expense, see below.
They don't accept card payments. But, to be fair, almost no one in Suriname seems to accept them.
Very poorly equipped kitchen (eg, pls buy a can opener, pls supply more than 3 forks, as there are 10+ people in the hostel normally), no plastic storage containers for cooked food. I could go on and on. It would take less than 50 Euros for a massive change.
Owner seems to take no interest in making even tiny adjustments to make guests life so much easier - eg, pls put a hook near the bathroom basin, so we can hang a towel (cost: 1 Euro, time needed: 2 mins), pls put a mirror above the basins (only 1 basin out of 5 has this) so that we can see our faces when we are shaving! Pls put a some furniture in room 9 other than the 2 beds - there was literally NOTHING else other than the beds; how about a drawer, or a cupboard to hang our clothes?

Loved the location. Close to the main attractions and most importantly, close to a very good restaurant called Souposo.
The room is nice but it misses a table - place - for you to put your stuff, as it only has the sink but no space for anything else. Shower could also have a little curtain so you don’t get the toilet wet when showering.
One of the staff was wonderful in making me an omelet everyday, instead of the boiled egg that is normally given.
I would stay again but my main complain is: it says you can pay with card but you can’t. They don’t accept it and say there is a problem with the bank. Luckily they gave me the option of making a wise transfer, but it is disappointing!

First dorm I got was horrendous and moreover stank. Paid more and got changed to a dorm with a/c

First off, the staff are so great! The two women who work the reception area are fantastic. Very on the ball and attentive. The hostel is in a great location as well.
I stayed in room number six and it was a great room with very good AC, but that mattress really needs to be replaced. Either replaced or put some kind of a topper on it because you can feel the coils.
